Read “500 English Sentences” case study in Lewicki et. al, Negotiation (pp. 680-688), Case 6. This case describes a cross-cultural situation where an American (Scott) teaching English in a Japanese high school is asked to endorse a book (500 English Sentences). The case describes the dilemma facing Scott, the structural background of how several layers of the Japanese government work together to bring approximately 5,000 English teachers to Japan every year, and Scott’s experience in his first year in Japan.
Write a paper summarizing the cultural dilemma in this case and the different negotiation styles and cultures involved. Apply the assigned reading from this module (and previous readings from the course) to the negotiation between Scott and Mr. Honda. Specifically, address the following prompts in your paper:
