Does this fact eliminate nursing from being a profession?

One of the agreed-on differentiating factors between an occupation and a profession is that a profession has “preparation.” There are three educational routes to becoming a registered nurse (RN). The diploma route was traditionally associated with hospital-based training and not with a college or university. Does this fact eliminate nursing from being a profession? Why or why not?
