Assignment Description

To examine in depth and through visual media a nutrient deficiency disease.
INSTRUCTIONS:
READ: Read the PPT slides for Module 4 and view any video links contained within.
CHOOSE: Choose one of the following nutrient-deficiency conditions on which to focus for this assignment: kwashiorkor, marasmus, xerophthalmia, beriberi, scurvy, goiter, pellagra, or rickets.
RESEARCH: Research your chosen condition using legitimate online resources (governmental websites, non-profit agency websites, websites of major relief agencies, scientific websites). Information from sources other than those mentioned will result in reduction in your grade.
CREATE: Create a “photo story” about your chosen condition using PPT. Create a 10-slide PPT presentation that will serve as a “visual description” of the disease you have researched. The slides should be formatted as such:
Slide 1: title slide (title of presentation, your name and course information) (5%)
Slides 2-3: Background information in your own words (not cut and paste) about the condition you chose (what is it?, how does someone develop the condition?, what happens to the person?, what area of the world is most affected?, what treatments are available?, etc…) (20%)
Slides 4-8: Photos, charts, maps, and other visual images that relate in some way to your chosen topic. Each image should include a brief written description the image. Images without a written description will not be graded. (60%)
Slide 9: A written summary of your conclusions about the topic (what is being done for prevention?, what can be done?, etc…?) (10%)
Slide 10: A list of the website used for each slide (5%)
NOTE:
Remember, the images that you chose should tell a story. You may select as many graphics as you would like, but they should adequately cover your topic. Have fun with this assignment!!
When you submit this assignment, you must submit it as a PPT or PDF file attachment. You slideshow should be designed in LANDSCAPE format.
All writing should be in your own words. If a slide contains information that is directly “cut-and-paste” from any source, that slide will not be graded and may be subject to failure of the assignment.
GRADING: This assignment will be graded based on your complete coverage of the above material using the percentages noted above. Slide design, ease of reading, slide attractiveness, and creativity will be factored into the grade.
