Self-awareness and self-reflection are complementary. One can be reflective (on clients and others) but not truly self-reflective. One can be self-aware in regard to various personal concerns but lack awareness regarding counselor-in-training performance, the counselor-client relationship, and/or the roles one plays in the profession. For this assignment, it is important to take an honest self-assessment regarding advocacy, skill level, theoretical orientation preference and the interventions that align, involvement in profession, ways to increase competence across ethical and cultural standards, and continued personal growth.
Assignment Instructions
You may use the Personal and Professional Development PowerPoint Template (linked in Resources) to structure your presentation.
In a PowerPoint presentation, (minimum of 10 slides), address the following:
Rate your current skill level on a scale of 1–10, 10 being the most competent:
Application of relationship skills and core conditions.
Interview process and assessment skills.
Theoretical orientation and its application.
Identify the steps you can take to enhance your skill level at least two points higher prior to practicum and internship.
Outline your plan for maintaining and enhancing your ethical, legal, and cultural competence now and as a professional counselor. Address the following:
What are the state requirements for licensure renewal in these three areas? (Cite your state association.)
Where are you lacking knowledge and what steps will you use to increase that knowledge? (Consider an article specific to increase professional development.)
Outline your current involvement in a counselor association. Consider the following topics:
How have you grown professionally from involvement?
What steps will you take to enhance service to this association?
Describe current areas of advocacy as part of your professional development. Include a plan for enhancing advocacy skills in your community or profession of counseling with literature support.
Describe the role supervision and consultation play in ongoing personal and professional competence in the following areas. Address both supervision and consultation areas with literature support.
Case conceptualization.
Countertransference.
Unfinished business.

Your assignment should meet the following requirements:
Communication: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, respectful, and consistent with expectations for professional practice in education. Original work and critical thinking are required regarding your assessment and scholarly writing. Your writing must be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
Length of presentation: A minimum of 10 slides, with presenter notes or a transcriipt to ensure accessibility to everyone.
Resources: At least five scholarly resources, including your course text or assigned journal articles. Include citations on the final slide of the presentation.
APA guidelines: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and format. When appropriate, use APA-formatted headings.
Font and font size: Times New Roman, appropriate size and weight for presentation, generally 24–28 points for headings and no smaller than 18 points for bullet-point text. For PowerPoint tips, refer to the PowerPoint Presentation library guide linked in the resources.
