Assignment Description

Each week during the term, you will be writing in your journal. Your goals for this weekly exercise are for you to:
Reflect privately on your opinions about the material we have covered each week. There are no right or wrong answers; this is your “safe place” to organize your thoughts about the material we have covered. If you find the material unhelpful or frustrating, you are free to say so. Conversely, if you feel particularly drawn to a certain topic, you are encouraged to explore that further. Some possible phrases that might be useful to keep in mind when journaling include:“I really was interested to read in the text about…“
“I had never heard of the concept of…“
“I completely disagree with Smith (or the person in the video clip) when she said…
“When I read about the subject of (whatever) that we covered this week, it reminded me of “Experience X” I had (or a friend/family member had) that was similar (or the opposite).
Raise a question about how this topic or “thing” could be studied further. For example, you could say:“I was very interested in learning about (person/thing). I wonder why s/he did this or this thing happened.”
“I liked learning about (this). In fact, I may consider researching this further in my research paper for this course.”
“In this week’s DB, I want to be sure and raise the point about (thing,) or see if any of my classmates have an opinion about (thing.)
What are your plans to work on your research paper this week? What have you discovered that is exciting? (Research should always be exciting! Keep a treasure hunting mindset!)
