The article, The Association Between Health Care Quality and Cost A Systematic Review did not offer a clear understanding of the problem. In my view, this study appears to be a mixed study as there are sections of quantitative and qualitative research review. The abstract did not provide clarity on the relevance of this topic or basic information on its content.
Overall, I rated this article as low quality. The systematic review from past article reviews was limited and the structure of the body of evidence, clarity and relevance were missing. As well, the quality of evidence was inconsistent and poor reporting of statistical analysis. Heterogeneity is present but without reasonable clarification on its impact on the evidence. This article uses a mixed method design as researchers used both a quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis within the same study. The combination of a quantitative and qualitative approach can support each other with some limitations, but this study did not provide solid evidence and findings (Shorten & Smith, 2017)
In my opinion, this study was more multipart and lacked clarity with data collection and analysis. The overall goal of mixed methods research, combining qualitative and quantitative research components, is to expand and strengthen a study’s conclusions and, therefore, contribute to the published literature (Schoonenboom & Johnson, 2017). This advantage, however, was not well utilized in this article
