Each state in the U.S. has a board of pharmacy that oversees the state’s rules and regulations about pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacies. Your state’s rules will govern your practices in the pharmacy and your role as a pharmacy technician.
Not only does each state have their own rules that apply to pharmacy operations but also licensure. Many states and employers will require your state license for employment and also may require that you are a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). You may earn this nationally recognized title by a completing the Pharmacy Technician Board Exam (PTCE) or National Healthcareers Association’s ExCPT exam, which prepares you to support pharmacists and patient care teams in any pharmacy setting.
