Assignment Description

This Research Writing Paper will be organized into an investigative and reflective paper. Students may include personal experience examples in their Research Writing Paper; however, the student will focus the majority of the Writing on the material researched using critical thinking skills and originality in the Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation of the material learned.
IMPORTANT: Research Writing Papers are not Personal Journal Entries, Venting Sessions, or Summaries of the Material in the textbook. Research, critical thinking, and originality are expected. Also please be aware that the Research Writing Papers are NOT confidential papers so please consider carefully any personal examples or personal information you include in the paper.
Research Writing Papers will include and be graded on the following:
In 750 to 1000 words, identify ONE developmental stage (from Sigmund Freud, Erik Erickson or Jean Piaget) and analyze it in relation to your personal life experience using an assigned format (MLA/APA).
If your Research Writing Paper is more than 1200 words, please revise your Research Writing Paper to bring the word count down to less than 1200 words.
Please use yourself for this development research paper assignment. (Please do NOT use your children, siblings, nieces or nephews, children you work with or may know, family members, or the people you work with, or people you may know). Also, choose a relatively current stage so you can make connections and give examples that you remember to support or disprove the stage of the theory. If you have questions or need clarification, please ask your instructor.
These are the theories and stages to choose from:
(Choose only ONE Theory and only ONE of the Stages associated with the Theory to write about, for your Research Paper.)
Freud’s theory of Psychosexual Development: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency Period, or Genital. Please do not write about dream theory, the id, the ego, or the superego for this assignment.
Erickson’s theory of Psychosocial Development: Trust vs Mistrust, Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt, Initiative vs Guilt, Industry vs Inferiority, Ego Identity vs Role Confusion, Intimacy vs Isolation, Generativity vs Stagnation, or Integrity vs Despair.
Piaget’s theory of Cognitive Development: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, or Formal Operational.

Address the criteria listed below:
(Introduction) Display an overall understanding of the chosen developmental theory.
(Thesis) Identify the theoretical stage that most impacted your development.
(Body) Evaluate your life experiences to explain the significance of the identified stage. Be sure to use integrated supporting statements from research to back up your comments.
(Conclusion) Emphasize how the stage impacted your personality/development. Discuss the stage, research, and your experiences, making connections between them to determine if the theory is valid in your opinion? Explain why you do or do not believe that the theory is valid and make connections between the theory, your personal examples, and research. (Please state in the conclusion whether you found the Theory/Stage to be valid or not. Use only the term Valid. Do not use terms such as true, accurate, important, or other such terms as they do not mean the same as Valid.)
You must cite at least four credible sources using the APA/MLA format. Credible sources are as follows: websites ending in .gov. or .edu, journals from a library database, or books specific to the subject matter (textbooks are permitted as one of the four sources).
Students must display use of scholarly writing skills (grammar, structure, terminology, and MLA or APA format).
Research Papers will not be accepted without the Turnitin Originality Report with less than 25% match, in-text citations, and a work cited page with full references. You will submit your research paper in the Canvas research paper drop box and the research paper will automatically be submitted to Turnitin.
You may submit your paper in Canvas to Turnitin as many times as you find necessary up until the due date. This way you can submit your paper, read the originality report, make the necessary changes to any found matches by paraphrasing your work further, and then resubmitting the research paper to Turnitin. Please note that any submission after the first submission may take up to 24 hours to receive the new Originality Report. Also, as College Level Writers use quotes sparingly…Please Paraphrase (put the information in your own words) the information you are using from your sources instead of using quotes! Please cite your sources whether you quote, summarize or paraphrase!

ORIGINALITY REPORTS
Turnitin Originality Reports are used to determine the amount of work that is original to the student. The written assignments you submit in this class must have less than 25% match and must be properly cited with in-text citations and work cited sources. This means that using direct quotes will be minimal and short. It is best to paraphrase the information you are using from other sources. Paraphrasing means to put the information in your own words. Further, this means that you don’t simply change a few words in the passage, but read the passage at least 3 times and then write a summary of what you have read as if you are telling me about the information that you have read. If it seems close to the work of the author, you will want to rewrite the information again in your own words. The paraphrased information must be cited with in-text citations and work cited sources.
Please Note: The less than 25% match DOES include the work cited sources. The percent match of 25% has taken these sources into consideration. These will always match as they are the correct way to cite the source. You do not need to correct these. You will focus on the work you have written in the body of the paper. If you have any questions, please email me for help.
Please Note: I DO look at your sources in your paper. The in-text citations show me where you have added the research from other authors, while the work cited sources show me where to locate the sources that you have used in your paper. Therefore, it is important to add both the in-text citations and the work cited sources in your writing assignments.
