Nursing practice is based on healthcare policies, organizational rules, regulations, and ethical guidance. Nurses are educated to deliver qualified care and do no harm to patients. Even when conducting EBP development or implementation, nurses should always consider the ethical principle to bring out the best benefits to patients’ health and eliminate immoral and unethical acts during the process. .” Fifteen Ethical Principles of the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights were developed in order to protect patients’ rights during conducting research. I’d to discuss the first principle, which is “Human dignity and human rights” (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019, p. 750), and how researchers ensure the human subject is protected by this principle. Human dignity and human rights are basic and principal core values in every human interaction (Ekpenyong, Nyashanu, Ossey-Nweze, & Serrant, 2021). Patient rights are basic human rights which means the expected standards one wants to be treated by others (Olejarczyk & Young, 2021). All patients have the rights to be treated with dignity during their course of illness. Dignity is believed and proven to produce a significantly positive recovery process (Ekpenyong, Nyashanu, Ossey-Nweze, & Serrant, 2021). Patient dignity and their rights should be concerned and protected during conducting a nursing research study; also, their rights should be included in their responsibility and decision in engaging in medical procedures, treatments, and nursing care to improve their health status (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019, p. 751). As nursing research aims to develop new practices to improve patient care and their quality of health, human rights, and dignity encouraging individualized patient care and justice in healthcare (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019, p. 751). Finally, I believe the establishment of human rights and human dignity in nursing research is a strong foundation to build a safe and high-quality evidence-based practice in the future.
