Patient outcomes and the fulfillment of care goals is one of the major ways that healthcare success is measured. Measuring patient outcomes results in the generation of data that can be used to improve results. Nursing informatics can have a significant part in this process and can help to improve outcomes by improving processes, identifying at-risk patients, and enhancing efficiency.
To Prepare:
Review the concepts of technology application as presented in the Resources.
Reflect on how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence may help fortify nursing informatics as a specialty by leading to increased impact on patient outcomes or patient care efficiencies.
The Assignment: (4-5 pages)
In a 4- to 5-page project proposal written to the leadership of your healthcare organization, propose a nursing informatics project for your organization that you advocate to improve patient outcomes or patient-care efficiency. There should be 3-5 references noted and references should within the last 5 years. Your project proposal should include the following: Write your paper in APA 7th edition format with HEADINGS; if there are no headings, the paper will be returned to you before grading so that you can place headings.. Paper to be submitted to Safe Assignment
The paper should answer the following questions from EVIDENCE and with citations:
The introduction of the paper will contain statistics or information about the nursing outcomes from a scholarly reference and guide the reader as to what the paper will entail.
Describe the project you propose.
Identify the stakeholders impacted by this project
Explain the patient outcome(s) or patient-care efficiencies this project is aimed at improving and explain how this improvement would occur. Be specific and provide examples.
Identify the technologies required to implement this project and explain why.
Identify the project team (by roles) and explain how you would incorporate the nurse informaticist in the project team.
Integrate Parse’s Humanbecoming paradigm as a basis for nurse as leader.
Conclusion
Intro
Patients that come in to the hospital for outpatient procedures such as bronchoscopies or lung biopsies require a chest x-ray after the procedure to evaluate that the patient does not have a pneumothorax. There has been occasions where there is lack of communication and the patients are sent home without being evaluated by a physician. These issues have occurred due to a failure in the system and lack of communication. To improve this issue, the EHR should have hard stops that do not allow the nurse to discharge a patient without all of the checkpoints being completed such as receiving a post procedural chest x-ray, having the provider evaluate the chest x-ray and having the provider evaluate that the patient is ready for discharge. The discharge orders should propagate only after all of these requirements have been checked off.
Stakeholders Impacted
This project will impact the nurses responsible for the patients care and discharge. The doctors will be impacted as well because they will need to evaluate the patient after the procedure and have extra documentation steps that will require some more time.
Patient Outcomes
Patients will be safely discharged home. If there is a pneumothorax then the patient will receive the adequate care instead of going home and being at risk for respiratory distress due to an unidentified pneumothorax.
Technology Needed
The technology needed for this project is a computer and artificial intelligence. The computer will be used for charting in the EHR and artificial intelligence will recognize these patterns and alert the nurses accordingly.
Project Team
The team needed for this project would be the IT tax and informatics nurse. The IT tech will be creating the tab in the event chart and end the informatics nurse will use their knowledge and experience to give opinion on the where the tab will go.
