Assignment – Health Literacy
The purpose of this assignment is to provide the student the opportunity to evaluate written client health education material.

1. Review a patient education document available at your workplace or a consumer health education web site.
2. Describe the document or web page in detail (e.g., font, use of color, photos, use by a variety of patient groups, etc., intended audience) .
3. Evaluate this piece of educational material for readability, cultural competency, and appropriateness for the intended audience. (This is not a discharge form or a consent form. Do not use this document in a teaching session with a patient) . 4. Have a patient and/or lay person (not in healthcare) give you feedback on the usefulness of this educational document. Be sure to describe your layperson in general terms (age, ed. level, occupation, etc.)
5. Provide your evaluation of the document and the feedback you received from your patient and/or lay person.
6. Close your paper in a final paragraph with some suggestions you would make to improve the usability of the information you evaluated.
Instructions:
Upload this assignment as a word document using APA format (title page and body of paper). No abstract is necessary. Include a reference list if you cite any resources within your paper. Complete and submit the assignment by 23:59 EST Sunday. A general expectation is that the paper is 2-3 pages in length.
Submission Instructions:
Assignments are due on Sundays, before midnight. Late assignments will be penalized 2 points for each day late. In the absence of extenuating circumstances, no work will be accepted more than 2 weeks late. An assignment is considered a day late if it is turned in after 11:59 pm EST (EDST) on the Sunday it is due. Therefore, turn in your work on time to avoid late penalties, to avoid stress, and to get the most from the learning resources.
