Book: “Experimental Psychology” by Myers & Hansen (7th edition) Wadsworth. Cengage Learning, Inc. 2012
Read Chapter 11 and based on the concepts post your discussion topic given below:
Lawson, Downing, and Cetola (1998) tested the effects of audience laughter on the perceived funniness of recorded jokes. After receiving one of four possible manipulations (Laughter strength: strong vs. weak X Constraint: constrained vs. unconstrained), subjects judged how funny they believed the audience found the comedy routine. This question was either first or fourth in a questionnaire. As expected, strong laughter did lead to higher ratings of funniness than weak laughter, but the order of the questions also produced a main effect. Subjects rated the comedy routine significantly less funny when they were asked this question first than when it came fourth. As the authors noted, “This was an unexpected, and puzzling, result”
Is this experiment confounded by order?
Explain why or why not?
-First, please make sure you do what it tells you to do in the directions.
-6 Points full – explained the 2 questions in details (3 points if covered only 1 question)
-Please also be sure your postings are well thought out and edited. Students usually miss the points, when they do, for not organizing and developing their ideas, not editing, and not being clear. Please be sure you break your work into manageable paragraphs (not just one huge, on-going post) as this is an important part of organizing.
