The post you will reply to is here: The success of after-hours clinics and urgent care facilities in many metropolitan areas
For the purposes of this post, I will be analyzing the environment factors and making suggestions from a marketing perspective in regards to an in-company clinic and after-hours clinic and urgent care facilities. There are five major environmental forces that include social, competitive, economic, regulatory and economic (Berkowitz, 2017). In order to properly analyze environmental factors and appropriately implement good practices, an environmental scan should first occur. After the scan, trends should be assessed and the impact on the target market should be analyzed.
In-company clinics is an interesting concept that I think could potentially be seen more in the coming years. The following has been said about having such options, “these clinics allow employers to offer convenient care to employees at their workplaces, which can lead to reduced healthcare expenditure and improved productivity” (Song et al., 2022). One factor to take into consideration when looking at an option such as this is economic. There is a high probability that the upfront costs would be considerably high. However, the payoff may be worth it. It would rely upon social factors of the employees such as demographics, culture, attitudes of patients, etc… It would be my understanding that a company setting up an in-company clinic could make that quite competitive. Toyta Motors for example, has seen some success with their on-site clinic in San Antonio, Texas.
While analyzing the second portion of the prompt, it became evident that there can be extensive benefits to having access to after-hours clinics in metropolitan areas. The first benefit is probably the most obvious, there is a significant increase to access to care. According to the textbook, there has been a 46 percent decline in the number of hospitals in 52 major US cities in 2010 (Berkowitz, 2017). Another benefit is that it can free up Emergency Departments by getting patients to an appropriate level of care. This in return can lead to cost savings. In a study conducted in Canada, it was found that having after-hours clinic had “an average net annual cost saving of CA$428,588” (Moe et al., 2019). It is also suggested that healthcare administrators consider pros and cons to after-hours clinics. As a healthcare administrator tasked to consider the pros and cons of this scenario, it’s important to understand social factors of the population to include consumer demographics.
The Lord wants us to glorify Him in all we do. For health care professionals, this may entail being accessible and providing care to our patients. The Bible tells us, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer” (Exodus 15:26, English Standard Version). Healthcare administrators may be tasked to evaluate situations such as the two presented in this post. When this occurs, the end goal should be delivering the best patient care to those within our network.
