This week we will begin to understand some of the demographics of poverty and how it affects different groups within society.
After completing this module, students should be able to:
Describe the effects of social stratification on various categories of people who are poor
Identify social processes of inequality that affect poverty
Challenge preconceived ideas about the categories of people who are more or less likely to be poor

For this Discussion, respond to one of the prompts from the Discussion PPT for two of this week’s articles for a total of two responses of a minimum of five sentences each. State the name of the article’s author(s) and copy/paste in the prompt from the Discussion PPT that you want to respond to. Then, type your response beneath it. You may put both in one reply or you may make two replies if you prefer. Just be very clear which content answers which prompt and what article that prompt is from. There is sometimes overlap with the homework, so be sure to answer different questions. Each prompt’s response will count for five points.
Remember, your posts must include well-thought-out answers to the posted questions as well as a familiarity with the assigned material. Posts should use correct grammar and spelling and students should refrain from using “text-speak” in the course. Your post should contain no fewer than five complete sentences in answer to the prompt to be accepted for credit. A sentence that states which prompt you are responding to will not count as one of the five sentences in response. Posts that do not meet these requirements will earn zero points.
