This week you will begin writing your Personal Philosophy of Nursing paper. This will be due on week 12 so this is the only assignment (as mentioned in week 1) that does not apply to the “open on Thursday and close on Wednesday rule”. I have included the rubric that outlines what each section of your paper should include and how you will be graded on the paper. The rubric will be what you receive explaining your grade so use it to guide you as you write your paper.
A philosophy of nursing is a statement that outlines a nurse’s values, ethics, and beliefs, as well as their motivation for being part of the profession. It covers a nurse’s perspective regarding their education, practice, and patient care ethics. A philosophy of nursing helps you identify the beliefs and theories that shape the choices you make on the job every day.
Outline of Items to Include: Define what Nursing means to you, Add a personal story that details your values and skills, Describe how you plan to impact society through your career, Highlight any additional values/skills that are important to you, What nursing theorist (Florence Nightengale, Virginia Henderson, Dorthea Orem etc..) has had the most influence on your philosophy and why, and how does your philosophy effect the patients environment, person, and health.
Remember to use APA format and keep your reference to those on the approved list discussed in week 1 (sources cited and have cover page).
