Pay for performance will require more closely recorded medical documentation and will also place more reliability on accurate informatics nursing. HER and other HIT Systems will become the inner core needed between agencies, insurance companies, hospitals, care facilities, diagnostic centers and physicians. The concern is that basing reimbursement and bonuses on pay-for-performance may lead healthcare providers away from high-risk patients who need care for fear of not being compensated.
Just as demand for quality will continue, the accreditation process (ie Magnet designation) will also continue to play an important role in the healthcare delivery system. The increased adoption of HER Technology secondary to meaningful use reimbursement will make it easier to provide data on patient outcomes.
