For this assignment, you will be tasked with selecting ONE country of your interest from the GBD Compare website (https://vizhub.healthdata.org/gbd-compare/) to generate an understanding of the burden of disease and risk factors for your selected nation.
Your goal is to highlight the disease burdens and key risk factors in your selected country. As a representative from your selected nation’s Ministry of Health, your task is to write a report for the newly elected President/Prime Minister/Leader of the country, directing their attention to the disease burdens you believe to be most impactful on the country. The President/Prime Minister/Leader will soon be attending a meeting at the World Bank, where they will be providing a short presentation on the disease burden within the country and requesting financial support for addressing the diseases you recommend are the most burdensome and able to be addressed in cost-effective ways.
When preparing your report, some questions that are helpful to consider include:
Which diseases are most prevalent?
Among whom – (thinking about the burden of disease by sex and age)
How does the burden of deaths differ from the burden of DALYs among different groups?
What are the key risk factors among different groups for the burden of disease?
Broadly speaking, what appear to be the burdens that should be addressed as the highest priorities
