1) Discussion Question
How is statistics used in the field of healthcare? Provide at least four examples in your response. The post should include at least 2-3 in-text citations from a scholarly source in proper APA format and should be a minimum of 250 words.
2) Response To Peer 1
The response should include at least 2-3 in-text citations from a scholarly source in proper APA format and should be a minimum of 250 words.
Peer’s Response (TB) (I need to respond to this) – Health statistics are used to monitor and analyze the various risks associated with diseases. It also helps policymakers understand the impact of their policies on the quality of healthcare. Healthcare professionals and researchers rely on statistics to make educated decisions and analyze data. It helps them identify patterns and trends that can influence practices and policies. The field of epidemiology is regarded as a branch of medical research that studies the distribution and causes of diseases in individuals. It uses statistical methods to analyze and determine the prevalence and incidence of various diseases. Studies conducted in this field help identify the causes of diseases and develop effective interventions. For instance, a study conducted by (Hsing et al., 2019) linked the link between dietary factors and pancreatic cancer. This study provided valuable information on how to prevent the disease. So, all in all, statistics play a significant role in healthcare, as they are utilized in studies about the prevalence of diseases and treatments, as well as in the analysis of procedures and policies. With proper statistical analysis, healthcare professionals can gain valuable insight into how to improve patient care and public health. Clinical trials rely on statistics to design and conduct studies that examine the safety and effectiveness of procedures used in the treatment of various conditions. A randomized-controlled trial involves randomly assigning patients to receive either a treatment or a placebo. Through the use of various statistical techniques, such as hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and sample size estimation, researchers can analyze the effects of treatments on the patients and come up with an informed opinion on its safety and effectiveness. For instance, the data collected during a clinical trial helped develop vaccines for a wide range of illnesses, including polio and COVID-19.

Peer Response (ED) (I need to respond to this) – Statistics are used in healthcare all of the time. In fact, most of healthcare is a compilation of studies and data. These important metrics provide real world data that helps to treat the general population. Reason 1: Statistics are important for finding the average ranges for blood testing. This can help healthcare professionals determine further treatment according to bloodwork results. Reason 2: Statistics can provide pivotal information in regards to the effectiveness of certain treatments. These treatments can be adjusted according to the statistics and results.
Reason 3: Statistics can be important in showing the mortality rate for cancer patients. This can help provide the patient with peace of mind and information regarding their diagnosis.
Reason 4: Statistics provide concise, easy-to-understand data that most healthcare professionals can understand. According to the data learned, this can help provide a basic understanding of what treatment plans can be pursued. Example: “…focus on statistical measures that are useful for healthcare professionals and patients in the real-world setting” (Eloranta, 2021). This study shows how statistics can be useful in predicting the real-world outcomes of cancer patients and their mortality rate. Example: Similarly, survival rates, recurrence rates, and secondary cancer rates can be calculated using statistical measures. All of these things are vital to the well-being and sound-mindedness of cancer patients.
