Then in your essay format assignment, respond to the following questions: Does the DSMV delineation of anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder give adequate coverage to the kinds of eating disorders to which men might be prone? What types of disordered eating and eating disorders might be more typical for men? What might be a different diagnostic criteria you would add/change that could encompass the sorts of eating problems to which men are prone? As many of the theories on etiology of eating disorders seem more specific to cis-females, identify some of the cognitive, emotional, biological, and/or psychosocial factors behind men’s disordered eating. Provide a discussion regarding media influences on men’s body image and how they differ from women in terms of content and persuasion of the message. For example, who is more anatomically implausible, Barbie or G.I. Joe? Conclude the assignment with any thoughts/findings regarding potential problems with diagnostic criteria and issues that may present with transgendered individuals.
