Professional Organizations and Certifications
Certification in nursing demonstrates commitment to professionalism. Those who choose to study, show a strong commitment to their career and a desire to deliver excellent patient care. Two important reasons for becoming a part of a professional organization are to promote personal development which can lead to knowledge expansion , and improved job prospects and support for change-making (Cline, D., Curtin, K., & Johnston, P. A. (2019).
A professional organization membership offers the member who gets involved opportunities for personal progress and growth. Volunteering and serving on a board can be gratifying and provide additional networking possibilities. Participating actively can help you develop your leadership abilities, give you the chance to try new things, and help you learn new skills (Klinshaw, 2021). Nurses that are apart of these organizations tend to be very involved in their hospital poster seminars and also do a lot of evidence-based changes to improve outcomes. Broward Health hospital nurses are very involved in these poster board seminars and they invite nursing students to these seminars.
Becoming a member of these professional organizations will help a nurse to network. Networking is important in nursing as it will help to create new opportunities and irreplaceable experiences. These career connections will be invaluable and they are both domestic and international. The chance to try new things will begin with continuous learning to make policy changes to benefit the patient and the organization in which you are employed.
Nursing certificates guarantee that nurses possess the necessary training, expertise, and abilities to provide patient care and enhance health outcomes. Certain nursing qualifications can aid in job placement, leadership role preparation, and nursing career advancement. Two certifications that piqued my interest are the Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) and Aids Certified Registered Nurse (ACRN) Certifications. The critical care certifications are offered by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Organization and the CCRN can be obtained in two years by following the stipulations. The Aids Certification is offered by the HANCB and comes with two years of work experience. I chose these certifications to help individuals who are critically ill to get them better to wellness or live a fulfilling life. Obtaining a certification in HIV will help me to garner the required knowledge and expertise to take care of these patients and give them a sense of belonging and satisfaction. These certifications I will obtain two years after earning my BSN. Certifications help the nurse to gain competency and additional knowledge to make them more well-rounded in their field and in return to help others.
