The Case Write-Up — As a member of this course, you will demonstrate your ability to review and assess various business situations based upon cases. These cases will vary in nature, length, and content. Don’t fall into the trap that a case only has a specific chapter theme or problem. Many problems exist in all these cases. While we will focus on a particular theme when we discuss the case, all themes must be identified to understand how they impact the theme being discussed.
The write-ups will be slightly different from what you may have done in other courses.
These write-ups should be typed, one-inch margins on all sides; 12 pt. Times New Romans; page numbers; single-space typed; and two pages (maximum length). This is not to be a review of the case. In this write-up, you need to be extremely specific. You should not repeat any of the case detail. The format of this case analysis should have the following headings: Problems/Issues; Possible Solutions; Recommend Solutions; and Expected Outcomes.
These write-ups are designed to be executive decision documents written so that your immediate report-to would be able to read, understand, and implement your decision. Each student will complete three case write-ups during the time of this course. You are only allowed to submit three cases write-up. Any late case submission without prior approval or beyond the granted deadline will earn a score of zero.

Reading from Harvard Business: Read Don’t Avoid Conflicts Manage Them from the Harvard Business Publishing course pack. The link to the course pack is included in the course syllabus. This reading will be essential to responding to your initial discussion board topic post this week.
Few (if any) of us relish the possibility of addressing a pending conflict. The first assigned reading. Don’t Avoid Conflict – Manage Them, claims that avoiding conflict usually means these unmet needs will get in the way of what needs to be done and direct energy away from tasks. Review the five tips on page 4. Relate one of the tips to an actual workplace experience and tell your classmates how a conflict was effectively addressed.

#2 Discussion Board Post: Bringing Out the Best Through Conflict
Reading from Harvard Business: This week’s required reading is Note on Conflict Management from the Harvard Business Publishing course pack.
The author suggests that the topic of conflict management is slippery because people cannot be easily directed and controlled, so theories on effective processes are constantly evolving. Based on Note on Conflict Management, the concept of differentiation is critical to gaining knowledge about your organization’s true strengths and weaknesses. Select one of the four links on page 8 (culture, authority, customer satisfaction, and management control) and suggest improvements that can be made to your workplace (prior or current). Support your ideas with documentation from the article.

As a health care manager, you are included in the ethics committee. There has been a new case brought before the committee for your review and recommendation. You will be responsible for reviewing the facts and providing a written response to the committee with your recommendations. This process will allow you the opportunity to analyze the health care manager’s role in ethical decision-making in a health care ethics case.

Write an 875- to 1,225-word response to the ethical committee regarding your recommendation as a health care manager presented with this case. In your response, you should:
Identify the major stakeholders in the case.
Identify the ultimate decisions makers (e.g., medical team, parents, etc.) in the case.
Explain Baby Bundle’s rights in this case.
Describe the ethical theories or principles that pertain to the case.
Analyze your role as a health care manager in this ethics committee decision.
Based on your review of the case and the fact that the parents are not in agreement, state your recommendation to the committee for next steps.

Scenario 1: A 16-year-old boy comes to the clinic with a chief complaint of a sore throat for 3 days. Denies fever or chills. PMH negative for recurrent colds, influenza, ear infections or pneumonia. NKDA or food allergies. Physical exam reveals temp of 99.6 F, pulse 78 and regular with respirations of 18. HEENT normal with exception of the reddened posterior pharynx with white exudate on tonsils that are enlarged to 3+. Positive anterior and posterior cervical adenopathy. A rapid strep test performed in the office was positive. His HCP wrote a prescription for amoxicillin 500 mg PO q 12 hours x 10 days disp #20. He took the first capsule when he got home and immediately complained of swelling of his tongue and lips, and difficulty breathing with audible wheezing. 911 was called and he was taken to the hospital, where he received emergency treatment for his allergic reaction.
You examine a case study and explain the disease that is suggested. You examine the symptoms reported and explain the cells that are involved and potential alterations and impacts.
Post an explanation (APA format) of the disease highlighted in the scenario you were provided. Include the following in your explanation:
· The role genetics plays in the disease.
· Why the patient is presenting with the specific symptoms described.
· The physiologic response to the stimulus presented in the scenario and why you think this response occurred.
· The cells that are involved in this process.
· How another characteristic (e.g., gender, genetics) would change your response.

Your Case Study Analysis is related to the scenario provided. You need at least 3 primary references, points supported by citation and associated current, primary reference provided after each essay. Textbook readings are very helpful and will reinforce knowledge culled from readings, reflected in final exam questions.

Scenario 1: A 32-year-old female presents to the ED with a chief complaint of fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, and vaginal discharge. She states these symptoms started about 3 days ago, but she thought she had the flu. She has begun to have LLQ pain and notes bilateral lower back pain. She denies dysuria, foul-smelling urine, or frequency. States she is married and has sexual intercourse with her husband. PMH negative.
Labs: CBC-WBC 18, Hgb 16, Hct 44, Plat 325, ­ Neuts & Lymphs, sed rate 46 mm/hr., C-reactive protein 67 mg/L CMP wnl
Vital signs T 103.2 F Pulse 120 Resp 22 and PaO2
99% on room air. Cardio-respiratory exam WNL with the exception of tachycardia but no murmurs, rubs, clicks, or gallops. Abdominal exam + for LLQ pain on deep palpation but no rebound or rigidity. The pelvic exam demonstrates copious foul-smelling green drainage with the reddened cervix and + bilateral adnexal tenderness. + chandelier sign. The case reflects PID. One would suspect the patient is not forthcoming or the husband is not monogamous.
