The Assignment
For this assignment, you will write a 500 word-minimum response to the reading assigned for the week that the assignment is due. These responses are not formal essays. Rather, they are an opportunity for you to say what you think and/or how you feel about the assigned reading and/or our discussion of the assigned reading. You should choose something about which you have something more substantial to say than “I like it,” or “It’s too long,” or some such thing. I have provided you below with some broad guiding questions to help you get started.
While these responses are not formal essays and therefore do not have to have a thesis statement around which they are organized, you do still need to pay attention to the overall organization and structure of what you hand in; and you especially need to pay attention to editing and proofreading.
Guiding Questions
While these questions do no address the specific characters, plots, or issues in your assigned reading, you should be able to use them as a starting point for your response:
• Choose a character: What was your first impression? Did that impression change over time? Do you find any given character sympathetic or unsympathetic? Did our discussion change the way you saw that character?
• Choose one action that a character took: Do you think the character you’re interested in was right to do what they did? Why or why not? What do you think about the way other characters reacted?
• Choose our discussion of an issue that the text addresses: What did you think of this discussion? What is your position? Did it change over the course of the discussion? What did you agree or disagree with during the discussion?
• Choose a passage in the text and look closely at the language in the text: What do you think about the way the author wrote that passage? Why do you think they chose the words, the sentence structures, the diction, they did?
• If we (or you on your own) have read any secondary sources about our text: Do you agree or disagree with the position taken by the author of that secondary text?

Find an example of an actual medical error on the internet or in the media, and briefly describe it.
Find evidence-based medicine or clinical guidelines that should have been used when making the medical decisions in the case; the best place to find clinical guidelines currently may be on the medical specialty association website.
What policies and procedures should exist and be followed to prevent the error?

Write a brief 2-3 page report about a health care economic issue that you have identified. Address the reasons why you selected the issue you did; identify how this issue impacts the work of you, your colleagues, and your organization; and describe the gap that you see contributing to this issue.
Health care economics has the potential to affect each of us either personally or professionally. This impact can be viewed from a health economics point-of-view (where we discuss the value of health care and its efficiency) or it can examine how health care is financed (focus on how health care is funded). Health economics and health care funding have the potential to influence health care outcomes in a variety of ways. The bulleted list below outlines topics and health care issues that many institutions encounter. Organizations often have to implement strategies or initiatives to resolve or improve these issues and create positive patient and institution outcomes.
Examples of health care economic issues:
The influence of health care economics on community health—for example, social determinants of health (such as access to care and health care finance).
Supply and demand: How do we in the health care environment exist when there are more needs from communities and patients than we have the resources to supply? An example of this would be a high number of patients and low resource levels such as staff, supplies, and equipment.
The public’s attitude toward health, disease, and the health care system—for example, how money is distributed has the potential to impact the health care outcomes of certain populations. An example of this would be the lack of access and funding for underserved and rural communities.
Other issues might include access to care, social determinants of health, senior health, food insecurity or food desserts, inadequate staffing, homelessness, rehospitalization environmental issues leading to chronic disease, et cetera.
Additional Requirements
Length of Submission: 2–3 double-spaced pages.
Number of References: Cite at least one piece of evidence to support your identification of the gap. This could be public health data, a peer-reviewed journal article, or another scholarly source.
APA formatting: Titles, headings, resources, and citations are formatted according to the APA style.

Tom Atchison does a good job of describing why a person can only be declared a leader if they have followers.
Using the text in his book “Followership” and additional sources cited by Atchison, write a true story on a leader you know that has failed. First, tell the story in detail as you know it and what the failure was. It can span over months or even years. Then, explain in full detail why the titled executive failed referring back to possible reasons cited in the text. Finally, explain whether or not the titled executive learned anything from the experience or not. Last but not least, tell what happened to that person after the failure was over…or if they simply continued to fail and the results of that. The person that failed can even be you. It’s your choice. This needs to be in the healthcare setting.

Evaluate why prescribing, control, and administration of medications is a major area of legal concern for health care providers. What is the impact of medication errors to the patient and the health care provider? Discuss ways doctors make mistakes in prescribing medication.
