Final Paper: Policy Analysis
This assignment is an analysis of local, state, or federal health policy.
Select a state health policy reform innovation
Discuss the rationale for the policy, how it was adopted (e.g., federal waivers, passage by state legislature), the funding structure, and (to the extent statistical data are available) its impact. ethical outcome based on evidence.
Examples of state innovations include Maryland’s hospital rate setting, Vermont’s single payer system, and Massachusetts’ health reforms
Submission Requirements:
The paper is to be clear and concise and students will lose points for improper grammar, punctuation and misspelling.
The paper is to be formatted per current APA style, 5-7 pages in length, excluding the title, abstract and references page.
Incorporate a minimum of 5 current (published within last five years) scholarly journal articles or primary legal sources (statutes, court opinions) within your work.
Journal articles and books should be referenced according to current APA style.
Complete and submit the assignment by 11:59 PM ET Sunday.

About This Assignment
Social workers are expected to synthesize assessment material into a written, coherent working product for documentation and case planning. Students are expected to conduct an interview with a person outside of class and gather the information in order to create a Bio-Psycho-Social Assessment document. Students are urged to avoid soliciting content that may be too intimate for the interviewee to share (e.g. medical, behavioral health, conflicted relationships, etc.).

Evaluation: Identify a method of evaluating the effectiveness of your treatment plan and intervention throughout treatment. This section should include plans for evaluation during and at the end of treatment.
Self-reflection: Briefly describe what you believe to be the strengths and weaknesses of your assessment skills. This should include professional demeanor, rapport building, insight, flexibility, judgment, etc. Also address any ethical issues that arose or could potentially arise in this case (i.e. personal biases, boundaries, etc.)

Read the brief summary of the EEOC Case Link below … write a one to two pages Bullet Style Review of what would you think as an Administrator/Employer of a case like these including 3 or 4 of the following Key HR issues:

Some of the articles do not provide detailed information to make clear decisions (e.g. what was the psychiatric disability?) so you may have to make some assumptions that make sense in your response. Case summary: A pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing company, Lonza America LLC, agreed to pay $150,000 to settle this ADA lawsuit in which a 14-year employee, a recovering opioid addict, was terminated after twice testing positive for a legally controlled substance. Lonza later learned the employee was a recovering opioid addict participating in a medication-assisted treatment program with a legal prescription for an opioid medication but forced him into counseling with a clinical psychologist and conditioned his return to work on discontinued use of the legally prescribed medication.

You have just been hired as a consultant to the chief executive officer (CEO) of a health care organization. Your duty is to improve the management tools and practices needed to work in teams, build cross-functional teams, and facilitate collaborative decision-making.
Instructions:
You need to identify elements found in an effective health care workgroup and identify barriers to communication that may cause conflict within a group. Suggest some types of communication techniques that can be used to avoid conflicts within a team.
You need to address ways to improve communication among departments in an organization to avoid conflict.
Finally, identify strategies that may be used to avoid recurring conflicts and ways a leader can ensure conflict is respectful and productive within the team in the organization.
Based upon what you have learned in previous classes, prepare a PowerPoint presentation in which you propose a quality improvement plan to present to the CEO addressing these issues. This should be a “how-to” guide to the CEO that they can readily implement to improve communications and ensure respectful and productive conflict.

Identify the type of question being asked (therapy, prognosis, meaning, etc.).
What is the best type of evidence to answer that question (e.g., RCT, cohort study, qualitative study, etc.)?
3.Search Strategy -List search terms and results.
-Databases used (start with the CU library). Link your search with the PICOT question described above
-Refinement decisions. As you did your search, what decisions did you make in refinement to get your required articles down to a reasonable number for review? Were any limits used? If so, what?
-Identification of two (2) most relevant articles (primary sources published within the last 5 years).

Origin of Injustice: Racism
In this section you are going to give a brief history of your injustice. Not more than a paragraph. You may or may not be able to find studies here to back up your claims but you can Definity use other reliable sources. The writing style is formal and must have fluidity. You need a strong introductory sentence that describes what the section will be about but without vague/weak language and is not painted with too broad a brush. You also need transition sentences and summary sentences. Use credible sources in this part because you cannot make up information. The citations will go after the last sentence with information from that source. Each paragraph must have at least ONE in text citation otherwise this is plagiarism. You also need to write formally, meaning NO PERSONAL PRONOUNS (we, our, my or you). This is no place for personal opinions either so the word should or need, should not be used. Look at my full list of words and phases in my Writing Style handout that make your writing juvenile (get/ing, a lot, huge, big, “when it comes to” to name a few). If you use them I will know you did not look at the videos and are not participating in class. NO QUOATATIONS either. Information needs to be paraphrased and cited correctly in your own words. Xenophobia
If you have a third cause to your injustice include it here. You are going to need a transition here into the Money Power and Control Section. Each paragraph will need to have at least one in text citation to avoid plagiarism..
Money Power and Control: US Government.
In this section you will find a specific organization or institution that benefits from your injustice and works to keep it in place. You will need to find different ways that they maintain power. Each of those tactics should have their own paragraphs. Use the site open secrets to find out how much this industry lobbies congress to protect their interests if you are dealing with American politics. You will need to find several sources to prove the point that this group of people do not want to allow change prevent progress. All the same writing rules apply for this section. Each paragraph will need to have at least one in text citation to avoid plagiarism. If you need more paragraphs, you will need to start them outside of the templated box
Propaganda
In this section you will discuss how the organization you introduced in the paragraph above uses this tactic to maintain power and control over your population. Use evidence to back up this claim with studies and stats. Each paragraph will need to have at least one in text citation to avoid plagiarism.
Red lining In this section you will discuss how the organization you introduced in the paragraph above uses this tactic to maintain power and control over your population. Legislation: Racial Justice Act. In this section you will find a specific law or a bill that directly impacts your population regarding your injustice. You want something that has been passed recently or is currently a bill. You can discuss older legislation here to give a background to how your bill came to be needed. Once you find one look it up on congress.gov. It has a summary of the actual bill and its history. You probably will not find studies about this section but it is possible depending on the discussion you want to have. You want to include the specific information about the bill as well as its history and the people that proposed it. You need to have a smooth transition to the next section. Cultural Norms: Culture of silence.
In this first paragraph define your culture that you are going to discuss. Some of these terminologies are newly coined you so will be constructing the definition in an academic style. Some of these are not as obvious and it will be up to you to present the content needed to support this is a culture. Ethical Obligation of the Health Care Professional: Future Register Nurse
In this section you will discuss why it is a nurse’s obligation to be an advocate for your population and be active in addressing the injustice through policy reform and program intervention. The transition here is important to start by introducing the idea that the nursing profession has to potential to play an important role and then explain why their skill set is ideal. Those with an environmental topic there will be plenty of position statements. For social injustices look up the provisions in the code of ethics. Describe what they are and choose a few to relate to your topic. NO PERSONAL PRONOUNS!!!!!!! This is not a personal statement on how you feel. Your feelings do not matter. Only facts and evidence do in this type of writing. Each paragraph will need to have at least one in text citation to avoid plagiarism. American Nurses Association In this section you will introduce an organization or institution that is actively involved in the nursing profession. Then explain how they support the involvement of the nursing profession in protecting your population through addressing your injustice. This could be through policy reform, official statements, accreditation requirements, grass roots movements, lobbying, program interventions or research. Always mention your injustice or a concept directly related to your injustice to keep each section tied to the topic and cohesive. Keep transitions in mind when going to the next section. This is about the last smart goals presentation, now is time for the goals evaluation.
Think back to the five SMART goals you created earlier in the term. Write a reflection paper following APA format and consisting of 750-1000 words in length. Then, create a 5–7-minute reflection video using the word document which evaluates each SMART goal that you created. Use Teams, Zoom, or Canvas Studio’s Screen Capture feature to record your presentation. Your face must be visible on camera (in the corner as you present your paper). You must introduce yourself and show your identification. You must dress professionally or your presentation will not be graded.

CLOSE READING
Find one empirical research article, or a literature review on a subject of interest. The article should have been published within 5-10 years ago. Read it in depth. Print it out and annotate it in the margins. Your annotations should include 1) the main ideas in your own words; 2) A statement about why the research is significant. 3) Highlighting of the most important supporting information that you think should be included in a summary. 4) Any questions you have or ideas that are not clear to you. 5) Any evaluation you may have about the work or its authors.
WRITE A SUMMARY
Then using your notes, summarize the study in one or two paragraphs. Do not state your opinion and avoid judgements of any kind. Simply summarize the research as concisely as possible in your own words. Do not use direct quotation. Do not include your own opinion or analysis. Use a scientific style.
