    Module 5 Assignment
    Self-Assessment Paper
The purpose of this paper is to conduct a cultural self-assessment.
You will read each of the boxes in Chapter 2 of your textbook (one for each domain of the Purnell Model for Cultural Competence), answer these questions as they relate to you.
Remember to answer these questions from your personal perspective. At all times, explain why you do or do not adhere to the dominant cultural practices and beliefs of the ethnic group(s) with which you primarily identify.
If you do not wish to self-disclose a specific area from the Organizing Framework, indicate so instead of just not addressing it; of course, this should not happen very often. Your paper should be formatted per APA and references should be current (published within last five years) scholarly journal articles or primary legal sources (statutes, court opinions)
    Submission Instructions:
The paper is to be clear and concise and students will lose points for improper grammar, punctuation and misspelling.
The paper is to be no shorter than 3 pages; nor longer than 5 pages in length, excluding the title, abstract and references page.

The Surgical Practice Summative Assessment Guidelines
The purpose of a case study is to walk the reader through a situation where a problem is presented, background information provided and a description of the solution given, along with how it was derived. A case study can be written to encourage the reader to come up with his or her own solution or to review the solution that was already implemented. The goal of the writer is to give the reader experiences similar to those the writer had as he or she researched the situation presented.
    Assignment Brief, for Individual Presentations:
Each student is required to verbally present a surgical case study (incorporating a PowerPoint presentation). They should outline their roles and responsibilities, as an ODP, demonstrating an understanding of individual patient needs and specialist equipment requirements (30 minutes). The module learning outcomes must be demonstrated as part of the presentation/discussion.
    Reminder of the Learning outcomes:
    1. Reflect on the role of the ODP within surgery and day surgery practice
    2. Demonstrate understanding of specialist patient needs and specialist equipment for a range of surgical specialties
    3. Recognise the non-technical skills associated with surgical practice
Steps/Guide to Writing the Case Study
Before you start putting together the case study:
Firstly, a reminder about maintaining patient and Trust confidentiality
 Choose the patient/operative procedure you are going to base your case study on.
 Gather as much pertinent information as possible about the patient situation/operative procedure/ your role, as an ODP student (whilst maintaining confidentiality).
 Discuss all of the elements surrounding the situation, in order to create the content of your case study.
Tell the whole story of the surgical intervention
This is a simple case study, and your presentation/discussion is about telling the story of a problem that has been fixed, the result is a case study that is interesting and educational for your audience.
    Describe the situation/problem
The audience needs to have a clear understanding of the situation for which a surgical intervention is required, so give background to the patient, the patient’s condition, the anatomy and physiology and pathophysiology, associated with this situation.
 Does any aspect of the patient’s pre-assessment, impact on the surgery itself?
 What aspects of the 5 Steps to Safer Surgery will you include in your presentation/ discussion?
 Are there any aspects of consent, pertinent to this surgery that will impact on the way the patient is cared for?
 What instruments/specialist equipment is required for this particular surgical procedure?
 What particular aspects of the surgical procedure/speciality is different to other surgical procedures, consider patient positioning, use of specialist equipment e.g. stapling equipment, harmonic scalpels etc. Do you need to include this information in your slides, to give your audience information, if they were presented with undertaking the same procedure (Learning Outcome 2)?
 Would a short video enhance your presentation?
 What about diagrams, would they be useful to members of the audience, if they were to undertake the scrub role?
 What is the role of the ODP in caring for this patient (Learning Outcome 1)?  How are you going to include Learning Outcome 3, in your
    presentation/discussion?
 Is there anything you have read with regard to this case study that has enhanced your knowledge and understanding of caring for a patient in this particular speciality/undergoing this particular procedure, that you would like to share with the audience?
    Conclusion:
 How will you sum up this experience?
    Bibliography or reference list
 Include one in your slides
    Last point
You can explicitly describe the intraoperative part (surgical) of the patient perioperative journey, incorporating aspects of the learning outcomes, whilst you are presenting your case study to the audience.
The audience can consider the information presented to further understand the situation and the surgical solution, and how the multidisciplinary team work together to provide the patient with a positive surgical outcome to their issue/problem.
What you will be marked on:
The overall presentation will address the relevant Learning Outcomes.
 A clear presentation, PowerPoint recommended, that allows the student to address their case study in a logical sequence, of the patient’s experience.
 Slides/images/pictures should be referenced and or acknowledged where appropriate.
 The ‘slides’ should contain the bullet points/main areas for further verbal dialogue and discussion by the presenter.
 The presenter may use crib cards if required, however, they should only be used as an ‘aide memoire’.
 The case study does not include the anaesthetic aspect of the patient’s journey (anaesthetic room activities) and finishes when the patient is handed over to the PACU practitioner, therefore does not include activities covered by the PACU practitioner.
Overall assessment of the presentation will consider:
 The student’s interaction with the audience, eye contact, verbal presentation and clarity of visual presentation.
 Relevant depth and breadth of discussion, of each component, as well as the ‘case’.
 The role of the ODP outlined throughout the procedure.
     Accuracy of information.
 Appropriate referencing and identification of resources utilised.  The presentation is undertaken in the identified timescale.
 The student’s response to any questions raised from the presentation.
Consider the 10.20.30 principle (Guy Kawasaki)
10 slides, 20 minutes (5-10 minutes questions), 30 colour, font and backgrounds)

Consider the following scenario: During the third week of your internship, the CIO emails you the following request: “Review the example I sent you about the implementation process. I attached a list of questions for you to answer about how the implementation process works and why IT projects sometimes fail. I’m most interested in your analysis of how organizations like ours can choose an information system and minimize the occurrences and effects of IT failures.” Completing this task for the CIO allows you the opportunity to analyze the selection, implementation, and evaluation of information systems in a health care organization and showcase yourself as a detailed-orientated analyst. Preparing for the Assignment:Read Case Study: Memorial Health System CPOE Implementation Failure. Use Ch. 6, “Implementation,” of Essentials of Health Information Systems and Technology as a resource, if needed.
Assignment Directions:Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you answer the following questions: What is the justification for selecting an information system? Describe it. How does the organization’s goals drive the selection of an information system?
What are the roles each of the organization’s stakeholders play in the selection and acquisition process? Describe them.
What is the typical IT implementation process? What are the roles and responsibilities involved in system implementation? How did the process described in the case study fail to include the fundamental activities of a typical IT implementation process? What are at least 5 indicators of project failure that manifest themselves in the case study? For each indicator you described, how and when would you evaluate its effect? Cite a minimum of 2 sources to support your assignment.

    1. The diversity of both students and faculty poses important considerations for teaching and learning. Reflect on the characteristic differences in gender, race, and culture, as well as the differences among the diverse generations in today’s nursing education classroom. When considering your personal philosophy of teaching, discuss how you might use these characteristic differences and diverse backgrounds and experiences of today’s nursing students as a teaching tool to connect students to nursing content and increase their understanding. In other words, how might you incorporate the background and experiences of your students into your teaching methods to enhance the ability of all students in your classroom to think critically and problem solve patient-care issues? 2. Nursing faculty is responsible for creating an environment that is conducive to learning and accommodates the multiple learning styles and abilities of students. As a nurse educator, how might you design learning experiences for class and clinical environments to promote positive and effective learning for all students? Do you think students should use their preferred learning styles and perhaps risk becoming rigid and unable to learn in different ways (should a situation demand a different learning style)? Or should educators encourage students to be open to different methods of learning, moving them away from their comfort zones? 2 paragraph each questions with 1-2 credible resources
