The goal of prevention is to lower the hazards and dangers to health. There are three kinds of prevention that consist of primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention. Primary stops the infection before it happens, secondary prevention lessens the effect of a disease after it happens. Finally, tertiary prevention eases the impact of an ongoing illness such as the screening by J.R in the Chinese community.
Identify the different roles and responsibilities of the nurse.
One of the nurse’s responsibilities is to help patients with chronic diseases change their behavior and adjust their medications according to the guidelines written by practitioners. They lead teams that aim to improve the care given to patients who have high needs and costs and reduce the related expenses (Taylor et al., 2019). They also coordinate the care given to patients with chronic diseases between the nursing home and the rest of the health care system. Moreover, they strive to enhance the health of the population by working with local communities to create healthier environments where people can live, work, learn, and play. The nurse’s role is expanding as evidenced by improved communication with patients, involvement in care management, and autonomy in practice. Nurses also try to address important social factors that may affect the health and well-being of patients with the help of health coaches, care coordinators, and social workers (Taylor et al., 2019).
    Challenges, weaknesses and strengths
One of the most challenging aspects of being a nurse practitioner is dealing with the legal and professional limitations that vary by state and country. There are restrictions on the scope of practice, or encounter negative attitudes from patients who doubt your competence compared to physicians (O’Brien et al., 2021). To overcome this challenge, one needs to be aware of the laws and regulations that govern practice in a particular location. You may also consider relocating to a state or country that allows more autonomy and independence for nurse practitioners. Another challenge is to balance the emotional demands of your work with your personal well-being. As a nurse practitioner, you are involved in the lives of your patients at their most vulnerable moments, and this can be stressful and exhausting (Ryder et al., 2019). One way to cope with this challenge is to do a self-check at the end of each workday and reflect on your feelings and experiences. You can also seek support from your colleagues, friends, or family when you need it. By taking care of yourself, you can also enhance your career opportunities (Ryder et al., 2019). My strength comes from my supervisor and coworkers, who encourage me to use my skills to the fullest extent possible within the law.
Patient population most likely to experience health disparities and why
Health disparities are closely linked with social or economic factors, such as race, ethnicity, gender, income, education, or geographic location, that create obstacles to maintaining good health. Therefore, the patient population that is most likely to experience health disparities is the one that faces multiple forms of social or economic disadvantage due to racism or discrimination and is underserved in health care. For example, racial and ethnic minority groups, people with lower socioeconomic status, underserved rural communities, and people with disabilities are some of the populations that experience health disparities in the United States. The reason why these populations experience health disparities is because they have less access to quality health care, education, healthy behaviors, and environmental resources that promote good health.

Choose two or three areas of prenatal care that you would want to discuss with Mary, and then write brief notes about what you know and/or need to learn about Amish values to discuss perinatal care in a culturally congruent way.
Reproductive health is one of the culturally contextualized aspects of care. Many issues need to be addressed in this case. First, I would advise and educate Mary about reproductive health planning. Even though there is no specific number of children women are recommended to have, I would advise her to consider a family planning option. Even though Amish families do not practice birth control to limit family size, I can educate and sensitize her about family planning options to help her make decisions and control future childbearing. The knowledge and attitudes surrounding family planning might be shaped by culture. Thus, there is a need for cultural competence care that will address the health problem from a cultural perspective. The requirement for cultural competence is recognized by healthcare providers and health-associated institutions in the U.S. and globally by acknowledging that people deserve respect within their cultural framework and as individuals (Purnell & Fenkl, 2019). As a result, the family planning care for Mary would be implemented while respecting Amish cultural frameworks.
Secondly, it would be necessary to highlight and discuss the essence of healthcare services and follow-up. Amish families often have different perceptions of health and illness, with a mix of modern and traditional medicine, complementary or alternative medicine. I would openly discuss their values, preferences, and attitudes toward specific therapeutic options for managing the sick child. Baby Melvin has respiratory problems, and the physician has informed them that the baby will be hospitalized if he does not improve within two days. Amish people may not seek medical attention for minor illnesses. However, they are more apt to use folk remedies and herbal teas. Thus, in this case, while managing this child, it will be essential to consider the risk of the child not being presented to the hospital due to the potential use of alternative medicine. The mother and her family need to be sensitized about the essence of medical follow while, at the same time, considering Amish cultural values and beliefs regarding healthcare services.
Discuss three Amish values, beliefs, or practices to consider when preparing to do prenatal education classes with Amish patients.
The knowledge, beliefs, and practices linked to childbearing among Amish women or families remain the center of focus in their healthcare delivery. Amish childbearing health practices feature high-risk problems during the childbearing period, with a general mistrust of outsiders. In addition, it must be noted that Amish separateness is quite isolated from the larger society at large, thus, worsening cultural conflicts when it comes to the delivery of care. As a result, there is a growing misunderstanding that has contributed to challenges for care providers who are not conversant or practice the Amish culture. This cultural diversity calls for an in-depth examination of Amish culture so that culturally congruent care for this population. First, babies are considered a gift from God in the Amish culture, which makes fertility be a highly valued element. Thus, birth control is unwelcome practice because it counters fertility. In other words, Amish families may not use birth control to limit their family size.
Second, modern medical interventions such as therapeutic abortions, amniocentesis, and invasive prenatal diagnostic testing are not accepted by the Amish community. Families who have children with genetic conditions are expected to manage health care within the context of cultural communities. Amish families do have a significant rate of genetic conditions, but few studies have documented family management of such disorders, given their low acceptance of therapeutic abortions, amniocentesis, and invasive prenatal diagnostic testing (Kueny et al., 2021). Thus, it becomes challenging to address their reproductive ethical concerns and carry out diagnostic procedures for identifying fetal abnormalities. Third, prenatal care commences in the first trimester of a first pregnancy but with delays in the subsequent pregnancies so long as the mother has no health challenges. This cultural aspect should be considered when developing a prenatal care plan for Amish families.

    1. The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that happened on April 26, 1986, at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant’s No. 4 reactor, close to the Ukrainian SSR city of Pripyat. Unit 4 of the nuclear power plant was destroyed by a rapid power surge that occurred during a reactor systems test. Massive amounts of radioactive material were released into the environment as a result of the accident and the ensuing fire.
In the first four months following the Chernobyl accident, 28 of the 600 employees at the plant perished due to the severe radiation impacts. Another 106 employees received radiation doses that were severe enough to make them sick. Concerns concerning radiation exposure to those who were evacuated from these places have been raised by organizations including the World Health Organization. In 1986, milk in the area was polluted with radioactive iodine, which exposed many kids and teenagers to significant thyroid dosages. (Backgrounder on chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, n.d)
A nurse plays an important role in disaster management. They assess and triage victims, administer first aid, advanced clinical treatment, and life-saving medications, distribute limited resources, and keep track of ongoing physical and mental health requirements. In the case of nuclear disaster, wound treatment, fluid management, infection control, the administration of medical countermeasures, community screening for radiation exposure and contamination, decontamination, and the provision of supportive emotional and mental health care are all included in nursing evaluation and intervention.

Regardless of the nature of a disaster the common thread and cause for concern remains the significant threat to human health and safety. Natural disasters such as earthquakes can cause devastation in a region and overwhelm resources. However, in March of 2011, an earthquake in Fukushima Japan caused a Tsunami which subsequently disabled the AC units to the nuclear powerplant causing the overheating of the nuclear reactors 1 and 3 (Anzai et al., 2012). In addition to the AC failure the backup cooling method of water injection also failed to provide enough cooling power to the quickly overheating reactors (Anzai et al., 2012). In a final attempt to prevent a meltdown there was a manual release of pressure which proved inadequate in prevention of a meltdown (Anzai et al., 2012). The meltdown ultimately resulted in the release of nuclear material which poses both immediate and long-term health implications for the residents. The immediate concerns during nuclear accidents often focus on removing of human life from the area of nuclear impact quickly to prevent radiation sickness and death (Anzai et al., 2012). However, the management of disaster only begins with the immediate preservation of life, multiple complications such as loss of home, family, community, and emotional and psychological factors also effect a community experiencing a major disaster. In Fukushima one of the many impacts of this meltdown on the health care community and patients was the hasty transport of elderly and ill outside of the contamination zone (Hasergawa et al. 2012). Many lives were lost when continuous care was disrupted in transport and vulnerable populations suffered consequently (Hasergawa et al,.2012). In case of such disasters the role of nurses as expert healthcare workers and patient advocates reaches beyond providing medical care to those impacted by disaster. Nurses often work to provide information and education to the community in cases of mass casualty or disaster incidents. Nurses can have a huge impact on the psychological impacts of a disaster in the community by recognizing the emotional needs of the community and facilitating provision of appropriate teachings and resources to the community.
