Registered nurses are the largest health care professional group. In a rapidly changing health care environment, nurses need to be at the forefront of change. It is important for nurses to share their experience and stories. As professionals, nurses need to be at the table to drive health policy and advocate for quality outcomes of aggregates. One way for a nurse to utilize their voice is by writing a letter to an elected or appointed official whose jurisdiction may be influential on the issue. Another avenue that nurses may choose is to inform the public through a media outlet, such as an op-ed essay for a newspaper, blog or a letter to the editor.

This assignment requires you to find a community health issue or bill that you are passionate about and that is under discussion by a local, state or federal governmental agency. You are expected to research the history of the bill. You will write a letter in support of OR opposition to this issue or bill to a governmental representative, an agency, or a media outlet. Please use the guideline for writing a letter to a representative or to a media outlet that is provided in the Assignment Folder. Your letter must meet all the components listed on the rubric and conform to word count listed in the appropriate guideline.

It is recommended that you contact an organization, media outlet staff, your governmental representative or their staff by phone. Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring is a conceptual thread in the USU College of Nursing’s curriculum framework. The purpose of this assignment is to offer students the opportunity to be exposed to Human Caring Science while providing students with the skills of critical appraisal of evidence.
Students will select one nursing research article that focuses on a study that used Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring as a theoretical framework.
Students should use as a guide, an appropriate Rapid Critical Appraisal Checklist found in Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt (2019; pp. 708-722).
The critiques are to be informal, although correct grammar, spelling, etc., are expected. The critique should include a brief description of the study that was reviewed and should address elements of the study relevant to critique.
Students will provide a written critique on a critical appraisal of the elements relevant to the nature of the research study such as type of study, design, quality of the study; and rationale, as well as implications for practice and further research and/or evaluation.
The grade will be based on accuracy, level of content and structure of the document.

He did well for 3 months and had returned to his job as a policeman. Six months after his transplant, he began to gain weight, had decreased urine output, was very fatigued, and began to run temperatures up to 101˚F. He was evaluated by his nephrologist, who diagnosed acute kidney transplant rejection.
