You will compose a position statement expressing your stand on an ethical issue in healthcare, as assigned by your instructor. (Should MD & RN substance abusers be handled like all other citizens?) You will do in-depth research later in the course, but not now! This is a brief “opinion statement” with two specific references described below. Use a 3rd personal voice such as “This author believes…” or “This nurse values…” to maintain a scholarly tone.
Developing this paper requires reflection on your personal values and life-long ethical beliefs and a brief review of the 6.0 Model for Ethical Decision-Making located in the Ethics in Nursing (week 1) materials. Information you will include to support your position ranges from a discussion of personal values, the stakeholders involved, and exploration of viable options to resolve the issue.
Scholarly references for two content areas requiring references are provided here: one supports your choice of applicable ethical theory from two basic options, and the other is used to identify a supportive provision from the ANA (2015) Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. Use the Bonde & Firenze discussion of ethical theories linked here to support your theory choice.
Your paper will be a maximum of 3 pages, excluding title & reference pages, and follow APA guidelines.
