OVERVIEW The Billings and Halstead text describes various curriculum models and requests for nursing curricular revision to better meet the changing needs of current healthcare. There is a call for more integration of clinical and didactic teaching, increased emphasis on safety, focus on improving all health aspects of the nation, student centered learning, and interprofessional education, just to name a few. INSTRUCTIONS
Read Billings & Halstead Chapters 6, 8, and 9. Considering your own experience with curriculum (either in a previous degree or in an academic institution where you currently work), you will develop this assignment using the following criteria:
1. Discuss three recommended curricular revisions from the textbook that are needed in current nursing curriculum (one paragraph for each revision). 2. Analyze three curricular design models (content blocks, concepts, competencies) and suggested revisions for each model as discussed in your textbook (one paragraph for each design models; use name of the design model as the subheadings).
3. After analyzing three curricular design models, discuss which model/revision that you would use to improve a change/potential change in nursing curriculum and how you would implement this change. Note: If you are not currently a nurse educator, discuss proposed curricular revisions. I am not a nurse educator. I have included the curriculum for this class. You can use it for the proposed revisions. Hint: Headings to use for this assignment:
• Title of paper for the introduction paragraph
• Three Recommended Curricular Revisions
• Curricular Design Model Analysis
• Potential Revision based on a Curricular Design Model
• Conclusion
This assignment should be between 5 (minimum) and 7 (maximum) pages, following current APA guidelines that includes at least 3 scholarly references, the textbook, and integration biblical principles. Do not use first person and all discussion must be supported by current research evidence (citation of scholarly sources).
Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

Directions: From the timeline, you are aware that in the 1960s it was decided that the mentally ill should be provided care/ treat in their communities. explaining how communities in the different states were unable to meet client needs. As a result, many became homeless at that time, and many with a mental health disorder are homeless today. ”Student 1 Post The mental health system displayed in our country as broken is putting it lightly, with suicide being the 10th highest cause of death in the United States (Gordon, 2014). Which means suicide accounts for over 38,000 American lives each year (Gordon, 2014). Before serving in the military, I might have answered this discussion post differently. However, 22 veterans a day, I now know the odds personally. Shocking enough, mental disorders are projected to increase sharply over the next twenty years (Gordon, 2014). The direct and indirect cost of mental illness in the United States will only increase further than the projected 300 billion annually in 2014, ranking it as the third most costly medical condition across the board (Gordon, 2014). I agree with the film’s media group when discussing the importance of having a safe place to gather strength and work on the complexities known as mental illness (Films Media Group, 1989). With the rat race society has placed us in, maybe that is why mental health is so evident. Research has proven that the goal of recovery is displayed via a life that includes health, home, purpose, and community (Gordon, 2014).
”Student post 2” Do you think the mental health system in our country today functions well, or is it broken? Why or why not?
In my opinion, the mental health system in our country is broken. I believe there is a stigma attached to anyone seeking help for a mental health issue. It was reported by Mental Health America that over 50 million Americans experienced some type of mental illness between 2019-2020. (The State of Mental Health in America, 2023) I believe Coronavirus greatly impacted many people in our country during this time. Thinking back, a lot of businesses were shut down and people lost their jobs which created a domino effect of people not being able to afford their mortgage/rent and other necessities. This could certainly be attributed to more people becoming homeless. We have been making improvements since the pandemic, but those same mental health struggles remain. I do believe we, as a country, are making strides to discuss mental health more openly. The new generations seem to closely follow social media and are made aware of people in the public eye who struggle with mental illnesses. According to The National Council, 6 in 10 Americans seek mental health services for themselves or a loved one. They believe the following barriers stand in their way of getting treatment: high cost and insufficient insurance coverage, limited options and long waits, lack of awareness, and social stigma. (Study Reveals Lack of Access as Root Cause for Mental Health Crisis in America, 2022) I hope in the future more people are open and willing to discuss their mental health struggles and what helped them. I apply the 2 post from the 2 student and i also attach the the directions. I need a reply response from the 2 students. -

This week’s in-class activities will allow you to practice challenging and difficult conversations with
patients and/or their support people. To prepare for class, review Chapter 6 in Cho & Cooley, and The
Joint Commission Quick Safety issue 47. You may also wish to review Chapters 3, 4 & 5 in
Cho & Cooley to prepare for this class.
Note: there are two parts to this assignment. In the first part you will reflect on your own experiences
with challenging conversations. In the second part you will choose a case study and prepare some
statements you will use to role-play the case study in class. Both sections need to be completed.
1. Think of a time you had a challenging or difficult conversation with a patient or their support
person. Perhaps you had to discuss a difficult diagnosis. Perhaps you needed to confront
someone who was not following hospital rules, or who was not adhering to medical advice (and
was being confrontational about it). Perhaps this person was openly abusive to you or another
member of your team.
A. First, think of a time when this conversation went well. Describe the scenario and what you
did and said that led to the good outcome.
B. Now, think of a time when you had a difficult or challenging conversation and it did not go
well. Using what you have learned from the readings, what might you have done differently.
Write a script for yourself – because practicing the actual words we might say in a given
situation is the only way we will learn to say these words when the time arises.
C. It is important to realize that even if we say or do the right things, and respond with
compassion and caring, not all difficult or challenging conversations will have what we think
of as a good outcome. Nor will all conflicts be resolved. What might you say to a patient or
their family if resolution does not happen? What other resources might you tap into to help
resolve the issue?
2. In class I will ask you to practice difficult and challenging conversations. The following are
scenarios you can choose to role play. After reading through the scenarios, indicate which one
you will practice, and write a possible response to each of the following communication steps:
A. Use Skill Set One (Chapter 3 in Chou & Cooley) to
1. Establish rapport
2. Elicit the list of all concerns
3. Negotiate a shared agenda
B. Use ART (Ask, Respond, Tell) to check understanding, to express empathy or to deliver
information:
1. Ask the patient or support person their perspective on the situation.
2. How would you respond to them with active listening?.
3. Tell them your perspective.
C. Now pivot to teaching, to explaining what you want the patient or their support person to
do differently.
1. What type of open-ended questions might be appropriate for this situation?
2. How would you elicit their ideas and expectations?
3. What types of emotions might the event trigger in the patient or their support person?
How would you respond to these using PEARLS?
4. Imagine they are being cooperative. What type of teaching is needed?
Case Studies: Difficult and Challenging Situations
Choose one of the case studies to write up for Step 2.
Case Study 1: It is a typical evening in the ED. Mr. T is in pain and has been waiting for an hour because
