Revisit the practice-related issue of interest that you identified in the week one discussion posting, and respond to the following:
Describe the practice-related issue and its impact on the nursing profession and/or healthcare delivery.
How does this issue influence healthcare safety, quality, and/or health outcomes?
What nursing intervention would you recommend to improve the issue?
As you conduct a review of literature to better understand the issue and your proposed intervention, what search terms might be most helpful?
Based upon your responses to the above, develop a PICOT statement that conveys the following elements.
P-Population and Problem – What is the nursing practice issue or problem and who does it affect?
I-Intervention – What evidence-based solution for the problem would you like to apply?
C-Comparison – what is another solution for the problem? (Note that this is typically the current practice, no intervention at all, or alternative solutions.)
O-Outcome – Very specifically, how will you know that the intervention worked? What will be the indicator of success, and how will that outcome be measured?
T-Timeframe – Target date for outcome achievement.
Use a sentence format to construct your PICOT statement. Here is an example from the educational field (remember, your PICOT will address a nursing practice issue or problem):
Do kindergarteners experiencing learning disabilities (P) who are given a stress ball to squeeze (I) compared to those who don’t have a stress ball (C) experience improved academic performance in class (O) over a 6 week period (T)?
Problem – learning disabilities impacting stress and academic performance
    Population – kindergartners
    I – stress ball
    C – no stress ball
    O – improved academic performance
    T – over 6 weeks
((Practice related issue in week 1- If I were to launch an evidence-based practice initiative, I would focus on medication errors. This is because medication errors are a major patient safety concern that can result in serious harm or even death. I would urge nurses to thoroughly check procedures regularly to guide this issue. This needs to be contrasted with the prescription, the Medication Administration Record, or the record of the therapeutic administration.))
Please include at least 2 scholarly articles.

Explain how an organization’s work impacts the health and/or safety needs of a local community.
Consider how nurses might become involved with the organization.
Organize content so ideas flow logically with smooth transitions; contains few errors in grammar/punctuation, word choice, and spelling.
Apply APA formatting to in-text citations and references exhibiting nearly flawless adherence to APA format.
Write with a specific purpose and audience in mind.
Adhere to scholarly and disciplinary writing standards and APA formatting requirements.
    Additional Requirements
Before submitting your paper, proofread it to minimize errors that could distract readers and make it difficult for them to focus on your research findings.

The David L. Rice Library (http://usi.edu/library/ ) is a wonderful resource at USI! Students can access the Rice Library in person or online. Students can find links to Rice Library under “USI Resource Links” for this course.
For this Discussion Board, utilize the USI Library databases and locate the following two articles or click on the links below: Thomson, S. (2007). Nurse-physician collaboration: A comparison of the attitudes of nurses and physicians in the medical-surgical patient care setting. MEDSURG Nursing, 16(2), 87-91, 104.

    Critique_of_’Nurse-Physician_C.pdf
The first article is the study and the second is a critique of the study. Read these two articles and comment on the study and the critique on the Discussion Board.
Identify the research question in the study article. Describe the additional references/sources used by the author to support her question. What ideas or thoughts did you come away with after reading the original study that would be helpful in your practice?
How would you judge the critique? (Remember, you are not judging the topic, just the critique). Was it complete? Was it fair?
Do you think this will be helpful to you when you get ready to read your selected articles for your PICOTS Research Question Assignment? Explain how Rieck could have improved her critique. Be specific.

Tips on writing an abstract for the MS
The following is adapted from https://www.scribbr.com/dissertation/abstract/
The abstract is a self-contained piece of text that informs the reader what your paper is about. You should wait until your paper is finished to write the abstract, so that it accurately reflects what you have written. Note that the rubric calls for the abstract to be 200-300 words long. It should not be the same as the introduction to the paper. Remember, this should include enough information for a reader browsing articles to know if your paper is the kind of article they are looking for.
You may use these questions to structure your abstract – answering them with about 3 sentences each.
    • What is the purpose of your paper? Outline the objective
    • What did you do to fulfill this objective? You may want to refer to the different sections of the paper as outlined in the rubric.
    • What did you discover? Summarize the key things that you learned through the process of writing the paper.
    • How does this inform your practice as a new graduate of the FNP program?
For more information, see the APA manual.
    Purpose/Introduction
    Addresses:
    purpose of paper
introduces how the paper will demonstrate synthesis of the concepts, theory and other aspects of MS course work.
Briefly discuss how the paper will demonstrate your knowledge and skills required for practice.
For more information, see the APA manual.
    Health Issue
Thoroughly discuss one of the approved health issues. Clearly identify the clinical guidelines to be used for the health issue and care of your patient. It is key to use and apply the most current Evidence Based Clinical Guideline to demonstrate application to practice. You are providing the generic, foundational information in this area.
This includes but is not limited to:
    physiology & pathophysiology
levels of prevention: Define and discuss each level in relation to the health issue. It is important to discuss which level your patient in the case study is at. Provide examples.
Discuss screening related to the health issue.
Identify key areas of assessment related to the health issue
    Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment recommendations.
Diagnostic testing per most recent clinical guidelines.
Discuss how you will evaluate how the patient is doing (patient outcomes).
    Case Study
Present a thorough narrative synopsis of the case, including: age, gender, employment status, CC, concise summary of PMH, HPI, current medications, pertinent available diagnostic and screening test results and insurance coverage. The patient’s treatment preferences, if known, are included.

Includes discussion of any further history questions that could have been asked for a more thorough history. This is an area you can develop to demonstrate your knowledge.

Case study includes a concise synopsis of the social history and what is known about the patient’s family, employment, etc. Includes a discussion of family assessment and what aspects of the patient’s family should be assessed in this instance. These may include family structure, members of household, major roles and/or family health practices that are impacting patient’s health status.
Do not use patient identifiers – direct or indirect.
Use initials or a pseudonym, if pseudonym, must state it.
All terms used need to be defined` and appropriately referenced.

    Theoretical framework
Applies an appropriate theoretical framework to the clinical case and is addressed in exemplary depth, demonstrating a thorough application to practice. Discuss how the theory can guide the care provided for the patient.
Definitions and theory are appropriately referenced.

Discussions of APN role and Family specialization are applied in relation to the case study and the guiding framework.
If needed, a descriiption of how the framework could be modified to guide practice for this clinical case is included. For example, if the theoretical framework does not include family, it would be good to discuss that and what you would do as a nurse practitioner to make sure to include the family in the care of the patient.

She’ll worry about me getting into an accident, losing my job, not making enough money—the list goes on and on.”
