For your initial post, research a neurological disorder or condition. Describe the symptoms, incidence (how often it occurs), causes, and prognosis.
Also, describe the functions of the hindbrain, midbrain, and forebrain.
For your reply to a classmate, describe a treatment for the condition your classmate posted and it’s success rate. If there is no treatment for the condition they picked, respond to another classmate who posted about a treatable condition instead.
For both your initial post and reply, include links to any of the sources you used.

    Discussion 7610:
    Scales of Measurement
This week, you were introduced to four scales of measurement, easily remembered with the acronym NOIR, and include:
    Nominal.
    Ordinal.
    Interval.
    Ratio.
Part I: Scales of Measurement and Referencing
-Provide at least one example of a psychological construct or attribute that can be measured in your specialization or a related profession for each scale of measurement (nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio) that is not in your Psychological Testing and Assessment text.
-Provide at least one example of a psychological construct or attribute that can be measured in your specialization for each type of referencing (norm-referenced and criterion-referenced).
-Provide a statement that evaluates which scale of measurement appears to be the most useful for examining attributes in your specialization or a related profession. Explain why it is the most useful.
-Evaluate which method of referencing (norm or criterion) appears to be the most useful for examining attributes in your specialization or a related profession. Explain your decision based on the area of focus regarding the test results. For example, identify if it is preferable to focus on how one individual performs relative to others who took the same test, or if it is preferable to only focus on what the individual can or cannot do.
    Part II: Norms
-Explain the different types of norms and the sampling procedures used when developing norms for a standardized test.
-Identify one use and one limitation for each type of norm.
    Discussion 7713:
    Environmental Considerations
When designing a treatment plan, it is important to consider the client’s environment and preferences. For this discussion, provide examples of how you may need to adjust a behavior plan to address preferences or environmental constraints. Describe some ways you might attempt to determine client preferences and environmental constraints that could affect your plan.

  • What is Watson talking about?

    1) What is Watson talking about? What is he generally saying about the study of psychology and the direction it should go. 2) What relevance, if any, does this article have for modern society or modern psychology? ARTICLES TO BE USED http://psychclassics.yorku.ca/Watson/views.htm

    THE ANSWER
In his 1913 article “Psychology as the Behaviorist Views It,” John B. Watson argues that psychology should be a purely objective, experimental branch of natural science. He rejects the traditional introspectionist approach to psychology, which focused on the study of conscious experience. Instead, Watson proposes that psychology should focus on the study of observable behavior. He believes that behavior is the only legitimate subject matter of psychology, and that it should be studied using the same methods as the other natural sciences.
Watson’s behaviorism was a radical departure from the dominant views in psychology at the time. It helped to usher in a new era in psychology, one that emphasized the importance of experimentation and objective observation. Behaviorism has had a profound influence on the development of modern psychology, and its influence can be seen in a variety of subfields, including learning theory, behavior modification, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Here are some of the key points that Watson makes in his article:
Psychology is a natural science. It should use the same methods as the other natural sciences, such as experimentation and observation.
The subject matter of psychology is behavior. Behavior is defined as any observable response or activity of an organism.
Consciousness is not a legitimate subject matter for psychology. Consciousness is subjective and cannot be observed directly.
Introspection is not a reliable method for studying behavior. Introspection is subjective and prone to errors.
Behavior should be studied in the context of the environment. Behavior is shaped by environmental stimuli and responses.
The goal of psychology is to predict and control behavior. By understanding the laws of behavior, psychologists can develop techniques for changing behavior.
Watson’s ideas have been influential in the development of modern psychology. However, his work has also been criticized for being too reductionist and mechanistic. Some critics argue that Watson’s focus on observable behavior ignores the importance of internal mental processes. Others argue that his work has been used to justify unethical practices, such as behavior modification and aversion therapy.
Despite these criticisms, Watson’s work remains important in the history of psychology. His ideas helped to shape the modern field of psychology and continue to be debated among psychologists today. His work is a reminder of the importance of objectivity and experimentation in the study of human behavior.

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas:
    Select 1 the following disorders:
    Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
    Body Dysmorphic Disorder
    Hoarding Disorder
Focus your discussion of the disorder on the following:What are some of the symptoms? What would this disorder look like in person? Make sure you relate this back to the DSM criteria.
Based on your research, do you think the media has portrayed the disorder you selected in an unbiased manner or is it sensationalized? Support your answer.
In the DSM-IV Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and Trichotillomania were in separate chapters.
Why do you think the DSM-5 has placed Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and Trichotillomania into a chapter called Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders? Support your answer with research.
You may also research the psychological disorders, by reviewing an electronic version of the DSM-5 in CTU’s library. For more information on accessing the DSM-5 in the library please review How to Access DSM-5 and/or watch this video.

n this course, you are asked to complete three journal assignments in which you reflect on “raising” a teen from birth through age 18 years. Earlier in the course, you reflected on your readings and personal experiences to consider the unique challenges of raising a child from birth to 10 years. You also considered the unique challenges of raising a child from 10 to 14 years. In this module, you will reflect on your readings and personal experiences to consider the unique challenges of raising a child from 14 to 18 years.
    <
    <
As your teen shifts from grade school to high school from around 14 to 18 years of age, it is a time, in part, to help your child prepare for their shift from teens to adulthood. Your teen will likely experience many milestones during this time, including getting a job, earning a driver’s license, sending out applications to colleges, and even possibly finding their first “love” (Morin, 2020). Online activity will be a critical concern, as you monitor their activity and help them understand social responsibility, while trying to balance that with allowing them their independence.
    <
    <
While there will likely be many times when your teen insists that they know better than you, there’s a good chance that their skills could use some fine-tuning and that you have plenty to teach them. This is an age when serious issues may need to be addressed, such as encounters with drug use and abuse, mental health—including anxiety, depression, and suicide—cyberbullying, and loneliness (Morin, 2020). As a parent, it can be quite rewarding to prepare your child for adulthood, but it certainly does not come without many challenges along the way.

For each number below, complete a thoughtful and thorough paragraph long enough to demonstrate your understanding of the subject matter of the class.
The Argument and Syllogism: Complete a thoughtful and thorough paragraph long enough to demonstrate your understanding of the course concepts indicated.Summarize the overall argument of the video in your own words. Be sure to include details and the main points the speaker used to make the argument.
Identify the three parts of the syllogism the speaker uses to make the overall argument:Major Premise
    Minor Premise
    Conclusion
Testing the Syllogism: Complete a thoughtful and thorough paragraph long enough to demonstrate your understanding of the course concepts indicated.Based upon the syllogism (your answer to Part 1. B), does this argument demonstrate inductive or deductive reasoning? Provide support for your choice. Be sure to only choose deductive OR inductive; you cannot choose both or neither.
If the argument is deductive, test your syllogism (your answers to Part 1. B) in terms of logical validity and soundness. Be sure to not only tell if the syllogism is valid and sound but also show how/how not or why/why not. If the argument is inductive, test your syllogism (your answers from Part 1. B) in terms of being a stronger or weaker inductive argument. Be sure to not only tell if the syllogism is stronger or weaker but also show how or why.
Rhetorical Appeals: Complete a thoughtful and thorough paragraph long enough to demonstrate your understanding of the course concepts indicated.Identify examples of all three rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos) that you noticed in this video and what information from the video has led you to your choices. Be sure to select specific words, phrases, or ideas and explain their connections to each type of appeal. Also, indicate what effect the use of these appeals has on the persuasiveness of the argument.
Rhetorical Devices and Logical Fallacies: Complete a thoughtful and thorough paragraph long enough to demonstrate your understanding of the course concepts indicated.Identify at least one specific rhetorical device and one specific logical fallacy in the way this topic is presented. Be sure to define the rhetorical device and fallacy and demonstrate how or why the source employs them. Also, discuss whether you think the use of each device and fallacy was deliberate or not and assess the effect that each one has on the argument.
NOTE: Remember, ethos, pathos, and logos are rhetorical appeals, NOT devices, so they are not what is being asked here. This is asking about rhetorical devices.
Moral Reasoning: Complete a thoughtful and thorough paragraph long enough to demonstrate your understanding of the course concepts indicated.Which specific kind of moral reasoning is demonstrated in your topic? Briefly elaborate on why you chose the one you did. Be sure to define the specific kind of moral reasoning you chose and demonstrate how or why the source employs them. Also, discuss whether the use of this kind of moral reasoning was deliberate and what effect it has on the persuasiveness of the argument.
Reaction and Reflection: Identify the most interesting takeaway that you got from this video. Reflect on how your application of the course concepts affect your understanding and reaction to the video and argument.
When completing this assignment, please keep the following in mind:
First and third person (I, we, her, him, they) are fine for this assignment, but do not use second person (you, your).

    106106 unread replies.106106 replies.
The goal of this activity is to reflect on human nature, what makes humans similar and/or different from other species, and the role of culture in evolution.
Step 1. Watch the video (16 min) “So Human, So Chimp” (click on the link). It is a segment of a three-part PBS series titled “What is the nature of human uniqueness?” In this segment, Alan Alda discusses this question with several scientists. You will also see examples or reenactments of experiments shedding light on this question.
Step 2. In the discussion board share your thoughts on what this kind of evidence suggests regarding human nature, what makes humans similar and/or different from other species, and the role of culture in evolution. As much as possible, try also to tie your comments to concepts and material covered in this module.
Your initial post to the discussion question must be a thoughtful response to this prompt provided. A 200-word minimum is required for the initial response [worth a maximum of 7 pts]. Professional language and writing are required. Connect your response back to the video, citing the evidence to support your position wherever possible.
Step 3. You are expected to read posts in the discussions and to actively participate in the conversations, posting a minimum of one thoughtful reply(more if you want to) back to other students [worth a maximum of 3 pts]. Your replies to other student’s posts are to be thoughtful responses that seek to further knowledge and understanding. Such replies as “nice post” or “ditto” are not thoughtful replies. Instead your replies should, for example, explain why you agree or disagree with a previous post, ask a probing question, clarify a statement, share your own experiences, support or refute a statement with evidence, and always be constructive and respectful.
