ANSWER
**In what ways has crime evolved over time?**
Crime has evolved over time in a number of ways. First, the types of crimes that are committed have changed. For example, in the past, crimes such as robbery and burglary were more common, but today, crimes such as cybercrime and identity theft are more common. Second, the methods used to commit crimes have changed. For example, in the past, criminals typically used physical force to commit crimes, but today, criminals often use technology to commit crimes. Third, the motivations for crime have changed. For example, in the past, criminals were often motivated by financial gain, but today, criminals are often motivated by other factors, such as revenge or thrill-seeking.
**Should sentencing of offenders be based on the relative depravity of their crime?**
There are strong arguments to be made on both sides of this issue.
**Arguments in favor of basing sentencing on depravity:**
* **Depravity is a measure of the harm that a crime causes to victims and society.** Crimes that are more depraved are more harmful and therefore deserve more severe punishment.
* **Basing sentencing on depravity can help to deter criminals from committing heinous crimes.** Criminals are more likely to be deterred from committing crimes if they know that they will receive a severe punishment if they are caught.
* **Basing sentencing on depravity can help to ensure that justice is served for victims and their families.** Victims and their families deserve to know that the criminal who harmed them has been punished appropriately.
**Arguments against basing sentencing on depravity:**
* **Depravity is a subjective measure.** What one person considers to be a depraved crime, another person may not. This can lead to inconsistencies in sentencing.
* **Basing sentencing on depravity can lead to longer prison sentences for some offenders.** This can have a number of negative consequences, such as increased recidivism rates and higher costs for taxpayers.
* **Basing sentencing on depravity can give the government too much power.** The government could use this power to punish offenders for their beliefs or lifestyles, rather than for their crimes.
**My rationale for basing sentencing on depravity:**
I believe that sentencing should be based on the relative depravity of the crime. This is because I believe that the harm that a crime causes to victims and society should be the primary factor in determining the severity of the punishment. Crimes that are more depraved are more harmful and therefore deserve more severe punishment.
However, I also believe that there are some potential problems with collecting and/or incorporating depravity findings in sentencing laws. One problem is that depravity is a subjective measure. What one person considers to be a depraved crime, another person may not. This can lead to inconsistencies in sentencing. Another problem is that basing sentencing on depravity can lead to longer prison sentences for some offenders. This can have a number of negative consequences, such as increased recidivism rates and higher costs for taxpayers.
I believe that these problems can be addressed by developing clear and objective criteria for determining depravity. These criteria should be based on factors such as the severity of the physical and emotional harm caused to the victim, the level of planning and premeditation involved in the crime, and the offender’s level of remorse.
I also believe that sentencing should be individualized. This means that the judge should consider all of the relevant factors in a case, including the offender’s personal history, the circumstances of the crime, and the potential for rehabilitation. This will help to ensure that justice is served for all parties involved.
**Potential problems in collecting and/or incorporating depravity findings in sentencing laws:**
* **Difficulty in defining and measuring depravity.** Depravity is a complex concept that is difficult to define and measure. This can make it difficult to develop objective criteria for determining depravity.
* **Bias in the assessment of depravity.** The assessment of depravity can be subjective and influenced by the personal biases of the assessor. This can lead to disparities in sentencing.
* **Potential for abuse of power.** The government could use the concept of depravity to punish offenders for their beliefs or lifestyles, rather than for their crimes. This could lead to a violation of the offender’s rights.
Overall, I believe that the potential benefits of basing sentencing on depravity outweigh the potential problems. However, it is important to develop clear and objective criteria for determining depravity and to ensure that sentencing is individualized. -

In Week 7 of this course, you will be asked to submit an introductory literature review similar to the introduction of the manuscript for a research paper. This will provide a conceptual overview of a topic of your choice (related to learning and motivation), synthesizing for the reader what research has been previously conducted on the topic, what theoretical frameworks have guided this work, what is currently known about the topic and what is not (yet) known. For Week 5 (this week), you will submit an outline of the introductory literature review. It should include in-text citations and references to at least 10 peer-reviewed journal articles that report on original studies that have been conducted (not secondary sources).
Note: *A scholarly journal article has been peer-reviewed. An original research article includes the first-time report of a research study or studies the author(s) conducted, including methodology (participants), results, and discussion. If your article does not have a Methods section, it is not the right type of article for this assignment. If you are not sure about the article you have selected, please ask your professor.
Please note that the outline should not contain roman numerals or alphabet-style labels. Labels will be headings that would be appropriate for the paper. Use paragraph form to describe what you will discuss in each section. Outline examples will be discussed in KL (Week 5). Attend or watch the recording before submitting the assignment.
For the Week 5 outline:
1. First, give a brief overview of what your paper topic is and what you will accomplish in the paper (thesis statement)
2. Use headings to group the major themes (and subthemes) you will cover in the paper. Be specific with your headings and check that they match what you are discussing (with the same level of specificity).
3. Under each heading, give a brief description of what you will discuss in the section and use in-text citations to support the major points you will make. Begin paragraphs with the main point you will make in the section, then use citations to support that point. Note- citations should be integrated into paragraph form to demonstrate what specific points they will support. Citations should NOT simply be listed at end of the paragraph. Demonstrate how the citations support the point(s) you are making. This will help you prepare for synthesis (looking across multiple studies) rather than a simple point-by-point (reporting) approach. Expect to have multiple citations under each heading. If you have a proposed section with only one citation, make a note that you will search/include more in the final paper.
4. Use at least 10 scholarly peer-reviewed empirical articles. You may include more, as 10 is the minimum (not maximum).
5. Be sure to use APA style, including the title page, appropriate grammar, spelling, and mechanics, as well as citations and references. -

Choose one of the following topics below and address the corresponding questions.Option #1 – Intelligence Test
Base your answers on your observations about the intelligence test you took in the Unit Readings and Activities.
Were the concepts of fluid and/or crystallized intelligence demonstrated through the test you took? Why or why not? Provide examples from the test itself in support of your response.
Did the test measure practical and/or emotional intelligence? If so, how? If not, how did it not measure practical and/or emotional intelligence? Provide examples from the test in support of your response.
Was the test accurate in measuring intelligence, according to Binet? If so, how? If not, how was it not accurate? Provide examples from the test to support your answer.
How might this test have been culturally biased? Conversely, do you feel that it was culture fair? Provide examples from the test that support your perspective.
OROption #2 – Multiple Intelligences
What is meant by Multiple Intelligences?
Take the Multiple Intelligence Inventory and determine which intelligences you score “high” on and which you score “low” on. Are the results consistent with your perception of yourself? Why or why not?
Do you feel the test was culturally fair? Explain.
What applications do the theory of Multiple Intelligences have in educational settings?
