    CONFORMITY
Fashion is a fascinating phenomenon, largely because people seem to conform to its dictates. Be it clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, hairstyle, home décor, lifestyle, and even body styles, people tend to go along with the latest trends. Media fashion images are inescapable; at supermarket checkouts, fashion magazine covers feature perfectly dressed, coifed, accessorized women and tanned, broad-shouldered, men with six-pack abs and bulging biceps. Most people do not look like this—but they try to—as evidenced by the billions spent yearly on clothes, cosmetics, diet plans, and gym memberships.
For this Discussion, you will examine social conformity as it applies to fashion trends.

Benchmark – Cancer, Chronic Illness, and/or Disease Paper
After reviewing the Class Resources, write a 1,000-1,500-word paper proposing a plan to prevent or reduce the incidence of cancer, chronic illness, and/or disease. The plan will focus on lifestyle changes and risk factors, in addition to elements that promote wellness, while decreasing illness and current high rates [prevalence] of cancers, chronic illnesses, and disease.
It is important to use current scholarly research when formulating a plan. The elements selected should be supported by this research.
Include the following in the plan:
Choose a cancer, chronic illness, or disease. Check instructor announcements to see if topic approval is required.
Choose a community/culture/subculture. A subculture is a smaller group within a larger culture who share common beliefs, norms, and traditions.
Describe the background of the community/culture/subculture as it relates to history or other defining characteristics. Including but not limited to the following: (a) What is the background of the chosen community/culture/subculture? (i.e., demographics, such as age, education, race, sex); (b) Explain the historical factors that are important to the plan and the perceived positive and/or negative effects on health care (i.e., norms, traditions); (c) Why is this an important community/culture/subculture to apply a prevention or reduction program? (risk factors/current rates of cancer/illness or disease); (d) Why is it important to implement a plan in this community/culture/subculture? How is this critical to the prevention or reduction of incidence?
Describe several components of the plan. What factors are considered that have a correlation with the community/culture/subculture described? (i.e., education, socioeconomic status [SES], existing lifestyle behaviors, health behaviors, self-care, exercise and nutrition, conflicts with mainstream medicine, religious/spiritual factors).
Using research and psychological principles/theories to support your plan, explain how you would make this plan successful (i.e., how will you promote it?): (a) Include information on how your plan would positively affect the factors described for the community/culture/subculture in relation to the chronic illness (i.e., lifestyle changes for a person suffering from a diabetic condition); (b) Describe how you would go about implementing your plan. Where your plan would be based (for example, if your choice is children with cancer, would that be in a hospital, school, etc.?); (c) How would your plan be different to any existing plan for your chosen community/culture/subculture?
Explain any obstacles that might get in the way of implementing your plan, and how you would overcome these obstacles. These obstacles might include the existing plan, dynamics of the population, or other problems.
Use four to six outside peer-reviewed journal articles to support your discussion (one of which may be the textbook). Scholarly support is evidenced by in-text citations that match source references.

Last week, you performed a frequency observation of a defined behavior. You focused on your experiences conducting the observation and measurement, and you included a simple frequency measurement of the target behavior.
For this Assignment, you will expand on last week’s observation by applying a more systematic approach to recording the behavior. You will not only have to use systematic behavioral measurement, but you will also have to select and defend why you selected that system over others.
In your readings from the Learning Resources and the Week 3 Single-subject Design video, review the different types of behavioral observation systems. Examine the pros and cons of each system. Note: Your review of the Week 3 Single-subject Design video will be critical to the completion of this Assignment.
Review the behavior you observed from the Week 2 Learning Resources video Observing Problem Behaviors. Select the behavioral recording system you believe would provide the most reliable measure of the target behavior.
    Assignment (1–2 pages)
Propose a systematic behavioral measurement system (e.g., partial interval, whole interval, momentary time sampling) you might use to conduct an ethical observation more systematically.
Write a 1-page rationale for selecting the systematic behavioral measurement system you chose.

Based on what you have addressed in the above paragraphs, explain your values and point of view on the perspectives and problem being evaluated. What is your reasonable argument or conclusion?
If you can address each of these areas in your Critical Thinking paper, then you should perform well! Ensure you do not plagiarize- please reference plagiarism guides in the Introductory Psychology Welcome’ folder. Assignment is turned in through SafeAssign and checked for plagiarism.

    Assisted Suicide
A man was ordered to face a murder trial for the killing of his wife, who was suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease as well as severe heart disease. As a result of this disease, she could not talk or walk and had to be fed through a tube in her abdomen. One day, his wife managed to scrawl a note in which she asked her husband of forty-eight years to kill her. The husband was described as a loving spouse who was devoted to caring for his wife. The man gave his wife an injection of ground-up sleeping pills. The wife became unconscious after the sleeping pills were administered, but she did not die. The distraught husband carried his wife to the car where he attached a vacuum-cleaner hose to the exhaust pipe and ran it into the car. He got into the car, along with the family pets, intending to kill his wife, himself, and the pets. After twelve hours, the man woke up to find his wife and one of the family pets dead. The level of carbon monoxide in the wife’s blood was not high enough to kill a healthy person but enough to kill his frail wife.
The man was ordered to stand trial for killing his wife. His lawyer argued that it was a crime of “passion and compassion.” The prosecution said that what the man did was illegal and that he should be sent to jail. Assisted suicide is a source of debate across the country. In Oregon, there is a “death with dignity” law. This law allows a doctor to prescribe a lethal dose of barbiturates to patients who have less than six months to live. Since the law took effect in 1997, 292 people have asked their doctors to prescribe drugs to end their lives. **
Was the man described above guilty of murder? Should he go to jail? What were the man’s values? Should laws be changed to allow assisted suicide? Look at the different points of view and examine your own values to construct a reasonable point of view.

  • Levels of measurement, also called scales of measurement, tell you how precisely

Levels of measurement, also called scales of measurement, tell you how precisely variables are recorded. For example, in scientific research, a variable can take on different values across your data set (e.g., height or test scores). There are four levels of measurement:
Nominal: The data can only be categorized
Ordinal: The data can be categorized and ranked
Interval: The data can be categorized, ranked, and evenly spaced
Ratio: The data can be categorized, ranked, evenly spaced, and has a natural zero.
Depending on the variable’s scale of measurement, what you can do to analyze your data is limited. There is a hierarchy in the complexity and precision of the measurement scales, from low (nominal) to high (ratio). Going from lowest to highest, the four scales of measurement are cumulative, meaning they each take on the properties of lower levels and add new properties.
    Scales of Measurement.PNG
Why Are Levels of Measurement Important
The level at which you measure a variable decides how you can analyze your data. For example, the distinct levels limit the descriiptive statistics you can use to get an overall summary of your data and which type of inferential statistics you can perform on your data to support or refute your hypothesis. In many cases, your variables can be measured at various levels, so you must choose the level of measurement you will use before data collection begins.

Scales of Measurement – Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, Ratio (Part 2) – Introductory Statistics
Then, read Writing Strong Research Questions: Criteria & Examples. Next, select four variables, one for each measurement scale (Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, Ratio). Then, develop four research questions, including the null and alternative hypotheses, and explain how they might be used to answer each research question.
    Partial Example (Grief and Loss)
Researchers have primarily investigated interpersonal loss and grief responses in samples drawn from the general populace (Andriessen et al., 2015). However, it is unknown whether death type, gender, education level, and emotional intelligence would similarly predict Persistent Complex Bereavement Disorder in a sample of active-duty police officers. Therefore, the following four research questions and hypotheses are proposed for this quantitative nonexperimental study.
    Research Question 1
After experiencing a significant other’s death, will death type impact persistent complex bereavement?
Null Hypothesis: There will be no impact of death type on persistent complex bereavement.
Alternative Hypothesis: There will be an impact of death type on persistent complex bereavement.
    Research Question 2
After experiencing a significant other’s death, will gender impact persistent complex bereavement?
Null Hypothesis: There will be no impact of gender on persistent complex bereavement.
Alternative Hypothesis: There will be an impact of gender on persistent complex bereavement.
    Research Question 3
After experiencing a significant other’s death, will education level impact persistent complex bereavement?
Null Hypothesis: There will be no impact of education level on persistent complex bereavement.
Alternative Hypothesis: There will be an impact of education level on persistent complex bereavement.
    Research Question 4
After experiencing a significant other’s death, will emotional intelligence impact persistent complex bereavement?
Null Hypothesis: There will be no impact of emotional intelligence on persistent complex bereavement.
Alternative Hypothesis: There will be an impact of emotional intelligence on persistent complex bereavement.
