Mental illness is a reality for so many people in our world today and excludes no one. For this assignment, you will research
a famous person who has struggled with mental illness.
In a two-page case study using the information learned in this unit, address the prompts below in your assignment.
Be sure to first describe your person, his or her situation, and how your chosen intervention method can offer help. This may require additional outside research from the Waldorf Online Library or another psychological textbook.
How would you propose helping the individual you selected?
Are there specific therapies you feel might benefit his or her situation, and why?
Be sure to use APA style for your assignment, and make certain to cite your textbook and any additional outside resources.

Imagine you are a psychologist interested in studying how authoritarian parenting styles (parents who raise children in a strict up-bringing) influence college students’ performance in their classes. What independent variables would you select or manipulate? What dependent variables would you choose? What type of study would you use?
(To earn full points, your answer should clearly identify 1 or more independent variable(s), 1 or more dependent variable(s), and a brief description of the type of study, as well as a justification as to why you chose that type of study.) -

1) How you did on the “How Old is Your Hearing?” exercise. Think about your results and if your hearing “age” is different than your actual age, what do you think might be the possible reasons?
2) Have you ever seen “magic eye” optical illusions before? If so, have you been able to see the hidden images? There are many, many examples of these that you can find online. Do an internet search and find one that you particularly like. Copy the image and share it with your group by pasting it in your response. Is there anyone who is not able to see the illusion even after watching the explanation? Sometimes I have students who absolutely can’t do it!

After adding a new question, begin to answer your question. You can create your own discussion question such as “How do stereotypes shape behavior in relation to both the self and others?” (Do not use this example question for your post) HINT: Some questions can be found in your book and also in the course lectures if you do not want to make up your own.

1.- Why is Society consenting of Motherhood Mandate?
Because of stereotypes and gender roles, our society has deemed women as childbearing places instead of a life. Women are seemed to be made for having children in the same way that men are made to work and provide for the family. These stereotypes and gender roles can be very harmful to women especially because of the pressure there is to have children. For women who cannot have children, this pressure can be very harmful and disrespectful. There is also not very good health care for mothers to even be having as many children as society deems possible which makes the question even more alarming. Why is Society consenting of this motherhood mandate? As mentioned by the Chapter nine PowerPoint, there are many stereotypes that impose that women cannot feel real happiness without being mothers even though research has not confirmed these claims at all. Society keeps pushing the narrative that women need to be mothers and have children in order to be happy.
2.- Why do you think more and more women are choosing to follow voluntary childlessness? Can this be harmful to society?
According to the book, more and more women are choosing to follow voluntary childlessness. In the United States alone, the percentage of childless women ages 30 to 34 has increased from 26.2% to 30.8% from the years 2006 to 2016 (Liss et al., 2019). Voluntary childlessness is when a woman chooses to refrain from having children. I believe this could be caused by the rise in feminism, the lack of present partners that are willing to help in child raising, and the growth of women going into the workforce. Feminism taught women that they should not succumb to societal standards and can be called to be more than just mothers. Not only this, but it has taught them that the primary purpose in a woman’s life is not only to be a child bearer and raiser. In our patriarchal society, men are held less responsible when it comes to raising children, and as a result, a lot of them do not know how to properly help in raising their own children. They feel that their primary duty is to work and provide for their family, but there are a lot of different aspects that entail what providing for a family truly is. Another aspect that can explain why more women are choosing to not have children is the fact that they are now working full-time jobs and lack the time or energy. In the US, we also lack health benefits that can help women raise children. I do not see this being necessarily harmful, but it does put a stop to the traditional nuclear family, and may cause the population to decrease (only very slightly and to a point that is hardly noticeable).
3.-The society of motherhood
The motherhood mandate, which is described as the social pressure on women to become mothers, is understood by society as the most important role of a female. As you wrote “Women are seemed to be made for having children in the same way that men are made to work and provide for the family” This is a stereotype totally learned from generation to generation.
On the other hand, the idea that women need to be mothers and have children in order to be happy, is also a limiting belief for women. Let it be understood that those beliefs are engraved in our culture. We have also been witnesses to the change that these last decades brought around motherhood and women. Today we see almost half of women decide not to have children and are happy. It is their choice of a fulfilled life.
The mentality of society is changing, a childless woman is less judged than before, especially if she has a successful career. However, if it is the opposite, then it is seen with pity. That side still needs to change. Being a mother, is a personal decision, and it needs to be respected and supported by society, that means, better health programs and labor flexibility so that a woman can be a mother at the same time as she succeeds in her career.
I think that society continues to support the motherhood mandate because, at the end, it is essentially a way to control the development and freedom of women. -

Consider the overall validity of the IAT. Discuss if you think this test is a valid and reliable measure of implicit bias. Use scholarly research to back up your claims in this section.
Use two to four scholarly resources, for this assignment the textbook can count as a scholarly source.
When writing in APA style, it is important that your analysis is written in third person. Writing in third person helps with clarity and conciseness throughout your paper.
However, some instances writing in first person is acceptable and should be used sparingly. Solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
