Overview:
Adler believed that your birth order determines, to a large extent, your personality. He stated that your traits reflect, somehow, how you have achieved a sense of superiority. He found that first-borns tend to be the most accomplished academically and financially. The last-borns are the most social and popular and the middle ones are often either “troublemakers” or “peacekeepers.” Only children, he said, often feel more comfortable around adults than people their own age.
In this assignment, you will examine what you know about Adler’s notions of personality and analyze the accuracy of his way of thinking.
Instructions:
Please answer the following questions about yourself or someone you know well:
What is your birth order in your family (e.g. only child, the youngest, the middle, etc.)?
Describe some of your personality traits, between three and five.
Read the article, A Review of 200 Birth-Order Studies: Lifestyle Characteristics.
This is an article that reviews many studies about birth order characteristics in people over many studies. The results can be difficult to comprehend as there are so many findings but look at tables 1, 2 and 3 to get an overview of how first-borns, middle children and last-borns are found to differ. The higher a trait is on the chart, the more frequently a study found it to be a significant personality factor so focus on the top 4 or so traits on each list.
Explain how accurate the article is for you or, someone you know.
Requirements:
The body of the paper should be 1-2 pages in length, double spaced, with additional title and reference pages
The document should conform to APA format, including in-text citations for referenced works.
Use this resource: Eckstein, D., Aycock, K. J., Sperber, M. A., McDonald, J., Van Wiesner III, V., Watts, R. E., & Ginsburg, P. (2010).A review of 200 birth-order studies: Lifestyle characteristics. Journal of Individual Psychology, 66(4), 408–434.
HOW TO ANSWER
First, you should provide information about your birth order or the person you know well (e.g., oldest, middle, youngest, only child). Then, describe three to five personality traits that you believe are accurate for yourself or the person you know.
Next, you’ll need to analyze the accuracy of Adler’s birth order theory based on the article you mentioned. Since I can’t access the specific content of the article, I can’t provide a detailed analysis of its findings. However, I can guide you on how to structure this analysis.
Summarize the Article: Begin by summarizing the key findings of the article regarding the personality traits associated with different birth orders (first-borns, middle children, last-borns, and only children). Focus on the top traits identified in tables 1, 2, and 3.
Compare Findings with Your Traits: Compare the traits identified in the article with the personality traits you described for yourself or the person you know. Do the findings align with your or their experiences? Are there significant similarities or differences?
Discuss the Accuracy: Analyze the accuracy of Adler’s birth order theory based on the article’s findings. Do the findings support Adler’s beliefs about how birth order influences personality? Are there any contradictions or discrepancies between the theory and the research results?
Consider Individual Variations: Keep in mind that birth order theory is a general framework and may not apply to every individual. Discuss any variations or exceptions you or the person you know might represent compared to the general trends described in the article.
Cite the Article: Ensure that you properly cite the article you’re referencing in your analysis using APA format. Include in-text citations for any specific information or findings from the article.
Conclude Your Analysis: Summarize your analysis and provide your perspective on the accuracy of Adler’s birth order theory based on the article’s findings. Do you believe that birth order significantly influences personality based on the research presented in the article?
References: Create a reference page following APA format to list the article you used for your analysis.
Remember to format your paper as per APA guidelines, including double spacing, title page, and reference page. Additionally, make sure to follow any specific formatting or submission requirements provided by your instructor or institution.

The paper will be based on the following client/counselor scenario: A counselor
The paper will be based on the following client/counselor scenario: A counselor received a new client, a man who has recently lost his wife to cancer and is now struggling to find employment. After 6 months of counseling, the man still could not find steady employment and learned he would be losing his apartment at the end of the month. The counselor just moved to the area to be closer to work and has a spare bedroom that is unoccupied. After contemplation, she invites him to live in her home for just ‘a few weeks,’ rationalizing her choice by stating she is assisting her client with his difficult circumstances. With more time spent together, they enter into a sexual relationship. After several years of engaging in this relationship, the man terminates the relationship and files a complaint against the counselor claiming that he has been emotionally harmed by the counselors’s choices. The counselor defended her actions stating that she terminated the relationship once they started to share physical intimacy and “they were both in love and cared deeply for one another.” The paper must follow The Stages and Components of the Tarvydas Model and must show each step of the model and how a third party I.e as the writer you would take this case through the model step by step including all components of each stage of the model. Relevant Ethical Codes must be included via their source (AMHCA, ACA, NSGC etc.) as they apply to the steps. Please be as original as possible and an example for enhancing sensitivity and awareness could be that the therapist could have taken into consideration that finding referrals specific to the clients’ needs like housing and employment could have also assisted the client. This would help a great deal for the client to build on/ refine their skills and increase independence.

This page will include activities that you can engage in for additional credit points that will be added to your final grade. Some will include research (mainly online survey) participation (see below), and others will include minor activities that will trickle onto this page throughout the semester. Each one will be worth 1 extra credit point. Students are allowed up to 5 credit points in total.
Online Survey Participation
Below is a survey you could participate in. I am beginning with one that I am currently running, open to both citizens and residents of Qatar, aged 18 and above. To provide evidence of your participation, please take a screenshot of the last page of the survey, including a timestamp, so I can verify that with my records. Please note that all responses are kept strictly confidential and anonymous.
Diversity Experiences: https://dohainstitute.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ePzGa95pWolgIeO Links to an external site..
After completing it, please provide a brief (approximately 200 words) commentary. For example, what was your impression? Do you think the questions were relevant? Do you feel your responses captured the essence of your thoughts and experiences? Would you have liked to see other questions?
Take part in online research studies, provide proof of participation, along with a brief commentary (~200-300 words) for each study you took part in. These studies MUST be empirical and academic (i.e., “What Hogwarts House do You Belong In” wouldn’t count). The commentary could be about the methodology, the purpose, your results (not all studies provide you with a summary of your results immediately though), or perhaps a way to link it to something you studied (in this course or another). Below are two links that provide lists of studies you can take part in online (some of the links are no longer active):

Studies have shown that the practice of journaling can have multiple health benefits. It can also be a tool to help you gather your thoughts in our course. Please watch this short video by Kaiser Permanente:
https://thrive.kaiserpermanente.org/thrive-together/live-well/everyone-keep-journal-7-surprising-benefits Each week during the term, you will be writing in your journal. If you are unfamiliar with the journal function in Blackboard, you might wish to view this short video produced by our Center for Innovative Instruction (CII) that explains how to access that feature.
Your goals for this weekly exercise are for you to:
Reflect privately on your opinions about the material we have covered each week. There are no right or wrong answers; this is your “safe place” to organize your thoughts about the material we have covered. If you find the material unhelpful or frustrating, you are free to say so. Conversely, if you feel particularly drawn to a certain topic, you are encouraged to explore that further. Some possible phrases that might be useful to keep in mind when journaling include: “I really was interested to read in the text about… “
“I had never heard of the concept of…“
“I completely disagree with Smith (or the person in the video clip) when she said…
“When I read about the subject of (whatever) that we covered this week, it reminded me of “Experience X” I had (or a friend/family member had) that was similar (or the opposite).
Raise a question about how this topic or “thing” could be studied further. For example, you could say:“I was very interested in learning about (person/thing). I wonder why s/he did this or this thing happened.”
“I liked learning about (this). In fact, I may consider researching this further in my research paper for this course.”
“In this week’s DB, I want to be sure and raise the point about (thing,) or see if any of my classmates have an opinion about (thing.)
Think about how you can take the next step to learn more about any related facet of the week’s text. -
