assignment. 2 .
The goal of this assignment is to give you a valuable opportunity to practice and test your knowledge about the 10 characteristics of pseudoscience.
Instructions:
Find an example of pseudoscience online: article, blog, advertisement, Youtube video. It should notbe a journalism source (e.g., news or general information website) – but instead, someone actively promoting the claim. Make sure it fulfills at least two of the 10 criteria for pseudoscience we’ve discussed.
In a .docx uploaded to Canvas, provide a URL link to your example and list exactly twocharacteristics of pseudoscience. (Only the first two listed will be graded. Any additional ones will not be part of the grade but I can check for accuracy.) Refer to a specific location in the text/website that demonstrates that characteristic. Quotes are good, and an additional web link may be necessary to point me to pages within the website. Then provide each definition as it relates to your example.
Example of write-up:
Web advertisement: http://www.example_pseudoscience.com/stupidstuff
Empty language: article states that, “the energies from the universe will promote your natural healing capability.” This statement doesn’t actually promise anything – how would we know natural healing ability was “promoted?” It’s pretty but tells us nothing. Term “energy” is not defined, used in a vague way.
Stagnation: the treatment is described as “ancient wisdom from the Mayans.” This statement assumes the ancients knew more than us about health, which is probably not true. If the treatment has not evolved over time, it may not be legitimate.
Points: 12 points for accurate identification of characteristics of pseudoscience and correct description and definition. If you list more than two characteristics of pseudoscience, I will only grade the first two listed.
PLEASE NOTE: The example you submit must be a modern example, not a scanned photo from an old advertisement. Any image or source that can be found by searching Google for “pseudoscience example” will not be accepted. You need to do the work yourself by using other search terms you think might bring up some questionable claims. The example also must not closely resemble anything presented in lecture videos. In other words, your example must be unique!
This assignment must be typed and uploaded electronically in MS Word (.doc or .docx) format. The file must be named in the following format: Psy01301_Lastname_FirstName_A3.doc. Submit your completed document to Assignment 3, listed on the Modules and Assignments pages, as a file attachment.

Evaluating the Selection Process
OverviewYour company’s recruiting team collected candidate data on a test battery composed of several selection assessments or procedures. Your task is to review available information about the current selection process, evaluate the selection process to determine the extent to which it is meeting the organization’s needs, provide your expert opinion on the extent to which the selection process is legally defensible, and offer recommendations for changes to the selection process. The outcome of this assignment is a technical report for the HR leaders in your organization. Note there is no one best way to design a selection process as multiple factors should be considered and judgment is involved. This assignment is intended to give you an opportunity to thoughtfully consider several types of common challenges that arise with selection processes and to think through possible ways to improve the process based on what you learned in the course. As such, your review and recommendations should be well reasoned and supported by the relevant scholarly sources (for example, the course text, peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and professional standards such as the SIOP “Principles for the Validation and Use of Selection Procedures”). InstructionsIn a 5–7 page technical report:
State the purpose of the report and provide a brief description of the available information about the selection process that informed your evaluation (what type of information is available, when it was collected, et cetera.) Evaluate the selection process with respect to the following, providing support from the scholarly literature and professional standards (for example, SIOP principles):Job-relatedness: Evaluate the sufficiency of the available evidence to support the job-relatedness of each selection assessment. Professional guidelines: What patterns are you observing based on the results? What is working well and what challenges are present with consideration to the following professional guidelines for selection procedures?Validity: Prediction of important performance and business outcomes.
Legal defensibility: Adverse impact risk for protected groups (for example, women, candidates age 40 and older, or ethnic groups).
Candidate reactions (the candidate experience).
Practical considerations (for example, cost-benefit, or feedback from key stakeholders such as recruiters or hiring managers).
Make recommendations for the selection process, addressing each of the following questions posed by the business leaders: Do you recommend retaining the assessment battery in its current form or making changes? Why?If you would make any changes to the selection battery, provide recommendations for what you would retain and what changes or next steps you would take to address the challenges that you identified in your evaluation of the job-relatedness and professional guidelines for validity, adverse impact, the candidate experience, and practical considerations. What changes, if any, would you recommend making to the way selection decisions are made based on the selection assessments (for example, top-down selection, multiple hurdle, or using cutoff scores)? How do you anticipate your recommended changes will improve the alignment of the selection process with the organization’s objectives?Support your recommendations based on scholarly literature and professional standards for best practices in selection and assessment (for example, SIOP principles).
Refer to the Evaluating the Selection Process Scoring Guide to examine the grading criteria on which your assignment will be evaluated.
Additional RequirementsYour assignment should also meet the following requirements:
Written communication: Written communication is understandable to key stakeholders who do not have a background in I-O psychology. APA format: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and format. References: At least five references in the technical report, at least one of which should be for a professional standard or guideline resource.
Length of technical report: 5–7 pages, excluding the title page and references.
Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
Line spacing: 1.0–1.5. -

Methods
You completed the previous pieces of the Methods section in your previous assignment. Be sure to integrate any feedback you received from you instructor (Feedback is attached).
Design
Select the single-subject design that best fits your study based upon your research and understanding of each design (reversal, withdrawal, multiple baseline—across participants, behaviors, or settings, changing criterion, alternating treatment/multielement).
Describe why you selected it and how the design is specifically implemented within your hypothetical research study.
Results
Create hypothetical data for your study. Describe the results of the intervention that was implemented.
Provide a graph of the data using the appropriate single-subject design graph.
Copy and paste the graph(s) into the same document as the rest of the assignment (do not submit separate files).
Graphs should use the guidelines from Chapter 6 of your Applied Behavior Analysis text, including chart title, data line with markers in black and white only, phase labels, phase change lines, figure caption, x axis line and label, y axis line and label, and any additional elements depending upon the individual single subject design.
Summarize results of the graph in a visual analysis (trend, level, variability) across and between phases.

Child Psychology Final Project
For this project, you will be choosing a media source-movie, TV/YouTube series, book, etc. that features a child between ages 3-10 as one of the main characters and comparing what you observe in that child’s development to 3 separate child development theories studied in this course. This assignment is due WEDNESDAY of week 4.
Part I – Describe the Media In this section, you will write your introduction paragraph explaining the purpose/thesis of the paper.
You will then write a detailed summary of the series you chose to review and use for this project. Make sure the source you choose adequately demonstrates several aspects of child development.
Part II – Write your analysis of the child’s development and compare it to 3 separate theories of child development As you prepare to write your paper try to identify the child’s functioning as it compares to normative information found in the text (e.g., Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, standard physical characteristics such as height and weight categories, Brown’s stages of language development, Kohlberg’s moral development stages, etc.) and/or your other readings (be sure to include appropriate citations). Write a well-integrated paper (be sure to use APA format) that includes an analysis of this child’s functioning as it compares to at least three (3) of the theories of child development presented in the book over the areas of functioning mentioned above (social, cognitive, emotional/psychological, sensory/perceptual, moral, physical, and motor). In other words, you will use at least three (3) different theories of development to explain the child’s social, cognitive, emotional/psychological, sensory/perceptual, moral, physical, or motor functioning. Discuss any discrepancies you discover or other influences that may explain functioning unique to the child you observed. Conclude your paper with a thorough and comprehensive conclusion paragraph. Be sure to use three scholarly sources in addition to your textbook(4 total sources). You may use sources from your annotated bibliography. Your paper is expected to be at least 1,200 words but no more than 2,000 words. You must list the word count of the body of the paper, not including the references page or title page. No abstract is needed.
*Your final project will be due by Wednesday of Week 4 by 11:59pm EST.
Final Project Grading Criteria Maximum Points Part I – Explanation of resource used for child observation, i.e. movie, series, book, etc. Part II – 1,200-2,000 word paper that thoroughly discusses observation as well as analysis of the child’s functioning from the perspective of 3 different developmental theories. Make sure to adequately demonstrate your understanding of the 3 theories and how the child’s development shown compares to what you learned. Proper APA format including citations and references. Minimum of 4 total sources cited.
