Final Research Paper
The purpose of this assignment is to publish and submit a comprehensive and complete APA research paper. Your final APA research paper is based on your original research topic proposal, annotated bibliography, and outline.
You will use Erik Erikson’s Psychosocial Stages of DevelopmentLinks to an external site. (see Chapters 1-3 in the Santrock text). Based on this theoretical lens, select one (1) stage of development. Based on that one stage of development, develop a research question and thesis statement.
Using the WCU Library, select a minimum of 3 to 4 peer-reviewed journal articles that will help you answer the research question while supporting your thesis statement.
Your final APA research paper must be a minimum of 4 to 6 pages (not including the required cover page, abstract, or reference page).
Your final APA research paper must include the following elements:
Properly Formatted Heading LevelsLinks to an external site.. Use the APA Publication Manual and review Table 2.3. Format for the Five Levels of Heading in APA Style & Figure 2.5 Format of Headings in a Sample Paper.
Properly Formatted Title PageLinks to an external site.. Use the APA Publication Manual and review Figure 2.2. Sample Student Title Page.
Properly Formatted AbstractLinks to an external site.. Use the APA Publication Manual and review 2.9. Abstract.
Properly Formatted Reference PageLinks to an external site..
Properly Formatted in-text CitationsLinks to an external site..
Beginning on page 3, write your introduction and thesis statement followed by your research question (be specific, focus on the age range within the selected stage).
For the body of your APA final research paper, discuss how your 3 to 4 peer-reviewed journal articles support your thesis statement and answer your research question.
Then, include your Personal Narrative (Level 1 Heading) and discuss why you selected that development stage.
Finally, include a Conclusion (Level 1 Heading) and tie together the paper’s main points, show why your argument matters, and leave your reader with a strong impression. Remember, your conclusion should give a sense of closure and completion to your argument and show what new questions or possibilities have opened up.
Be sure to plan enough time for proofreading and editing. Use the APA 7th Edition writing style, mechanics, and format.

We learn by observing other people. View the Albert Bandura’s BoBo Doll Experiment (see video) which shows how people can learn a behavior without experiencing the consequences first hand. When you are in an unfamiliar situation, such as eating in an upscale restaurant, you may observe what other people do before you begin your meal. Discuss what behavior you learned by observing other people. Why did you repeat this behavior?

Critically thinking about how groups function as well as the role of the group leader will help you prepare for work you will do in this course. Reflect on the concepts you learned from the resources provided above to determine your perspective on therapeutic factors in group work.
Imagine you are a leader of a group. Identify process information that would indicate that these therapeutic factors were developing.
What can a group leader do to encourage the development of therapeutic factors?
Throughout the class you will be required to comment on the process and content that you see in your interpersonal group. What are some general areas to focus on for the first group?

Final Research Paper: Proposal
Instructions:
This is a RESEARCH paper so your voice must be professional with a bit of a professional distance, which means that you should not insert yourself into your topic or provide personal anecdotes as you might with a paper for your literature class. If you need an example, please consult a peer-reviewed Psychology journal and use as a reference point for the type of language and content appropriate for this type of technical paper. Please use proper APA format and refer to your APA Manual to make sure it is correct and for examples. Please upload documents in Microsoft Word only (.doc or .docx) to Sakai once you have your final draft completed.
IMPORTANT: This is a PROPOSAL. This means that you must present your own proposed study in your method section. You do not have to actually collect the data, but you must propose what you would do if you were to conduct a study based on your topic.
Resources Please consult these resources before you begin:
1. Read the instructions completely, several times to make sure you understand the requirements
2. Look over the sample paper I have provided
3. Reference the Bem article that you read earlier in the term about how to write a research article
4. Listen to the Writing in Psychology ppt that was given about mid way through the term (again)
5. Review your APA manual for proper format
6. Look at articles in peer reviewed Psychology Journals to absorb the proper tone, technical voice, and what should go in each section if you need more examples than what I have already provided
7. Use the rubric as a guide as you write and also use it to score your own paper once you are finish. It can be used as a checklist of what should be included.
8. Your professor! Please contact me if anything is unclear. I want everyone to get A’s on this paper, so if you have any questions, please contact me early on so I can help
BEGINNING TO WRITE
1. Organize.
Now that you have read and summarized your articles, start to organize the information you have obtained from the readings. Do some articles provide redundant or similar information? Do some articles provide different or conflicting information? (If your topic is teen pregnancy and academic achievement, perhaps you will have found 2 articles that suggest that teen pregnancy often causes girls to not finish high school. Maybe 2 other articles suggest that socioeconomic status is an important factor in determining if girls who get pregnant in high school ever finish high school.)
2. Write an introduction/literature review.
The first 1-3 paragraphs of your paper should introduce your topic. This part of the paper should make it clear why your topic is important. Explain to your reader why they should want to read the rest of the paper! Also, you want to briefly explain what you are going to be talking about in the rest of the paper.
(e.g., Teen pregnancy is an important social issue because….This paper will discuss the relations between teen pregnancy and academic achievement…..First, young girls’ ability to finish high school after becoming pregnant will be discussed. Second, the role of girls’ socioeconomic status in determining their ability to excel in school when deal with a pregnancy will be explored….Finally, research discussing the importance of girls’ families…..)
3. Write the body of the paper.
This is where the actual literature review/introduction comes in. You want to organize your summaries to provide a good review of what the literature you have read says about your topic. Be careful not to plagiarize your articles as you summarize them! It is important that you do not just recount every bit of information in the original articles. Instead, integrate the information you have obtained from the different references. (If you are working on the teen pregnancy paper, you may want to write 1 page about girls’ finishing high school after a pregnancy, 1 page about girls SES, and 1 page about family involvement).
4. Conclusion.
The last 1-2 paragraphs of your literature review should “wrap-up” what you have told your reader. This is a good time to reflect on what the literature tells us, and what it does not tell us. What are potential avenues for other research? What is the take-home message of your literature review?
AIMS and METHODS
1. Read your literature review and think about how the research could be improved.
You will not be required to collect data or conduct the study, only to think about and propose what you would do if you were going to conduct research on your topic. This must be your OWN original work, not a regurgitation of what others have done.
2. Generate research questions related to your topic.
Operationalize and write out your research questions. Make sure that they are well aligned with your topic and that they are measurable.
3. Write up the Aims of the Study section.
Make sure that the research questions and predictions are clear and logically follow from the literature review.
4. Write up the Method Section of your proposed Study.
Describe the following, making sure to use proper APA Style:
a. potential participants you would include in your study
b. the measures and/or equipment you would use in your study
c. procedures for collecting your data that you would use to evaluate your research questions
5. Write up the References Section.
Make sure to use proper APA Style. Check to make sure that all of the citations have references and that all of the references have citations. You must have at least 6 references. They must be from peer reviewed Psychology Journals.
6. Contents of final paper:
Your final paper must include the following: a. Title Page
b. Abstract
c. Lit Review
d. Aims of the Study e. Method Section
f. Reference Page
7. Formatting requirements
Must use proper APA format throughout. Consult your APA Manual early and often. No more than 8 pages (NOT including the title page and reference page). Times New Roman font 12pt. double spaced.
