    Annotated Bibliography on Caroline Silby

In preparation for your final paper, it will be vital that you locate several journal articles that focus on the sports psychologist Caroline Siblby. For this annotated bibliography, you must find at least eight relevant journal articles from Keiser’s online library or the internet.
    What is an annotated bibliography?
It is an organized list of sources (referenced in APA format), such as books, journals, newspapers, magazines, reputable web pages, etc., each of which is followed by a summary or descriiption of the source.
Annotations may consist of all or part of the following list of items, depending on the purpose of the bibliography:
describe the content (focus) of the source
describe the usefulness of the source
evaluate the reliability of the source
discuss any conclusions the author(s) may have made
note key points from the article relevant to your final project
describe your reaction to the source
What does an annotated bibliography look like?
The following is an example source from an annotated bibliography:
Waite, L. J., Goldschneider, F. K., & Witsberger, C. (1986). Nonfamily living and the erosion of traditional family orientations among young adults. American Sociological Review, 51 (4), 541-554.
The authors, researchers at the Rand Corporation and Brown University, use data from the National Longitudinal Surveys of Young Women and Young Men to test their hypothesis that nonfamily living by young adults alters their attitudes, values, plans, and expectations, moving them away from their belief in traditional sex roles. They found their hypothesis strongly supported in young females, while the effects were fewer in studies of young males. They are increasing the time away from parents before marrying, increasing individualism, self-sufficiency, and changes in attitudes about families. In contrast, an earlier study by Williams cited below shows no significant gender differences in sex role attitudes due to nonfamily living.

Let’s consider: Welcome to our first discussion assignment. For this week’s discussion, it will be helpful for you to first read Chapter 1, especially pages 4-19. As you are probably already observing in your reading this week, there is so much to learn about mental health and mental disorders. As our text’s authors remind us, “abnormal psychology has implications for all of us” (Kearney & Trull, 2018, p. 4).
While it is important for a clinician to recognize and learn to diagnose abnormal behavior it is also important to heed the author’s advice that “Abnormal behaviors are not simply present or absent but exist along a continuum in everyone in some degree” (2018, p. 9).

Note that there are three important criteria to remember when determining whether or not some behavior is “abnormal” (p. 5).
    Those three are:
    Deviance from the norm,
Difficulties adapting to life’s demands or difficulties functioning effectively (including dangerous behavior), and
Experience of personal distress (2018, p. 5) Chapter one provides several examples of what might be labeled “abnormal behavior.” Look at these cases in your textbook: Travis (p. 4) and Treva Throneberry (p. 5).
Let’s discuss: Now, for your initial post, think of a particular life difficulty (one of your own or someone you know) and share it with your classmates for discussion. (Remember to share at your comfort level. You are not required, and do not need to share anything that is too personal.)
Think about and list the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that are associated with this difficulty. Use the continuum chart on pages 10 and 11 and describe the behavior, emotions, and cognitions that are associated with this difficulty.
(Where did they fall on the scale of normal, mild, moderate, mental disorder less severe, or mental disorder more severe?) Using the three criteria on page10, describe whether or not the life difficulty resulted in “abnormal behavior.” List any cultural norms or factors that should be considered.
Remember to post two additional response comments interacting with at least two of your classmates. Give a substantial response to his or her posts. Do you agree or disagree with your classmate or can you relate to his or her opinion in the post? Can you add any thoughts or additional information that you may have found concerning their topic? It is certainly ok to disagree with a classmate, but just remember to be respectful of each other in the discussions. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion.
** Be sure to use in-text citations and cite at least one additional resource besides your textbook in your initial post. Don’t forget to type your resource citations at the end of your post as well.

Create a list of 3 potential employers/positions that interest you. Assign each position a rating of 1-4 where 1=very competitive (to obtain); 2=moderately competitive; 3=somewhat competitive; and 4=not very competitive. For each job, answer the following:
    a) Why does the employer/position interest you?
    b) What training is required to apply for the position?
    c) What is the average salary range of the position?
    d) What do you need to do from where you are right now in order to be competitive for the position?

  • Describe how schemas, implicit personality theories, static cues, nonverbal behavior, and substantive behavior affected your perceptions.

In this discussion you will be asked about some impressions that you have formed about people. Describe how schemas, implicit personality theories, static cues, nonverbal behavior, and substantive behavior affected your perceptions. You are probably exposed to media information about movie stars, singers, sports stars, politicians, and other celebrities. Pick TWO persons and discuss how your schemas, static cues, nonverbal cues, and substantive behavior affected your impressions of each of those people.
    THE ANSWER
As humans, we often form impressions of people based on various factors such as schemas, implicit personality theories, static cues, nonverbal behavior, and substantive behavior. These impressions can be influenced by our own preconceived notions and the information available to us through media and personal experiences. Let’s discuss two individuals from the public eye and how these factors affected my impressions of them.
    Person 1: Elon Musk
Schemas: My schema for Elon Musk was largely influenced by his reputation as a tech entrepreneur and visionary. I associated him with innovation, cutting-edge technology, and ambition.
Implicit Personality Theories: Musk’s outspoken and unconventional behavior often led me to perceive him as a maverick personality with a willingness to challenge norms. I assumed he possessed traits like risk-taking and determination.
Static Cues: Musk’s appearance, including his choice of attire, was consistent with the tech industry’s stereotypical image. This reinforced my perception of him as a tech mogul.
Nonverbal Behavior: His confident and often daring statements during interviews and on social media conveyed a sense of self-assuredness and a tendency to push boundaries.
Substantive Behavior: Musk’s actions, such as founding SpaceX and Tesla, aligned with my initial impressions of him as an innovator and disruptor.
    Person 2: Oprah Winfrey
Schemas: Oprah Winfrey’s schema was largely shaped by her public persona as a media mogul, philanthropist, and talk show host. I associated her with empathy, empowerment, and leadership.
Implicit Personality Theories: Winfrey’s reputation for compassion and her commitment to social causes led me to perceive her as a caring and empathetic individual. I assumed she possessed traits like empathy, kindness, and wisdom.
Static Cues: Her appearance, including her choice of attire, often conveyed a sense of authority and elegance, reinforcing my perception of her as a respected figure.
Nonverbal Behavior: Winfrey’s warm and empathetic demeanor during interviews and public appearances reinforced my perception of her as a compassionate and approachable individual.
Substantive Behavior: Her philanthropic work, including initiatives related to education and healthcare, further confirmed my impression of her as someone dedicated to making a positive impact on society.
In conclusion, our perceptions of individuals, especially public figures, are shaped by a combination of schemas, implicit personality theories, static cues, nonverbal behavior, and substantive behavior. These factors can influence our initial impressions and, in some cases, reinforce or challenge our preconceived notions about people. It is essential to recognize the role of these factors in shaping our perceptions and to remain open to revising our impressions as we learn more about individuals.

Discussion Board Topic: Mapping the Interests for Both Parties
In the reading Get All the Interests Right, the authors (Lax & Sebenius, 2006) suggest that mapping the interests of your organization and their organization is a serious, ongoing priority that enables you to improve your current position. Based on your own professional or personal experiences, discuss an instance when you could have given greater credence to the Social Contract (p. 6) implications of a negotiated process. How do these interests differ from the traditional focus on the Economic Contract? Please be specific.

    INSTRUCTIONS
For this assignment you will read the case study then generate a report that uses the following outline. Each section should be separated by the appropriate APA headings (Level 1, Level 2…)
    Client Concerns
    Symptoms Behaviors Stressors
(Examples) Sadness Trouble sleeping Parents’ divorce
    Fatigue
    No appetite
    Hopelessness
Client Concerns: Using a table as in the example above, identify and list the client’s symptoms and any other key issues/concerns noted. (Modify the chart size as needed.) For example, these may include biological, psychological, social, and/or spiritual problems. If symptoms/behaviors overlap, you only need to list them once.
    Assessment
Provide one assessment that will be used to clarify the diagnosis — a valid assessment that a counselor can use. Give a short (3-5 sentences) overview of the assessment, what it would help you learn about the client, and why you chose it over other assessments (for example: Beck Depression Inventory: identifies clinical depression, strong research base, short, easy to administer and score). Provide one peer-reviewed journal article reference to support the use of this assessment.
    Diagnostic Impression
Provide the primary diagnostic impression based upon the DSM-5-TR. Include the ICD-10 code and full name of each diagnosis. Be sure to consider secondary disorders in addition to the primary disorder. Is there more than one diagnosis? Provide the following for all diagnoses.
    Signs and Symptoms
List the signs (client’s report) and link them directly to the symptoms (criteria you find in the DSM-5-TR) in table form (example below) to make sure you have linked every client sign to every DSM-5-TR symptom you will use to support the diagnosis. Be sure to adjust the size of the table accordingly. If there are client reported signs that do not fall into the DSM-5-TR diagnosis, make note that you considered them, but they did not align with the DSM-5-TR.
DSM-5-TR Diagnostic Criteria: disorder name and code number Client’s Signs/Reported Symptoms:
    Criterion A:

    Criterion B:

    Criterion C:

    Criterion D:

    Criterion E:

    Criterion F:
    Other DSM-5-TR Conditions Considered
List other DSM-5-TR conditions you considered and the process you went through to decide they were not the correct diagnosis. For example: “The client reported three symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder, but five symptoms are needed for this diagnosis, so the disorder was ruled out.”
    Developmental Theories and/or Systemic Factors
Discuss theories of normal and abnormal development and/or systemic and environmental factors that affect human development, functioning, and behavior. For example, consider questions such as “What Erikson stage is the client in?” or “What is occurring within the client’s family system that may be influencing the client’s current functioning or behavior?”
    Multicultural and/or Social Justice Considerations
Using the RESPECTFUL model acronym (below), choose at least one of the client’s identities and discuss multicultural or social justice considerations that went into your diagnostic thought process. The case study may or may not explicitly discuss each of these; based on what is known about the client, explore how this identity may influence their lived experience. For example, what would the client say about their symptoms/situation from their cultural point of view? Is/Could the client be experiencing concerns related to discrimination, marginalization, oppression, etc.?
    Religious/spiritual
    Economic class background
    Sexual (and/or gender) identity
    Psychological maturity
    Ethnic/racial identity
    Chronological/developmental challenges
    Trauma/threats to well-being
    Family background/history
    Unique physical characteristics
    Location/language differences
    Treatment Recommendations
    Key Issues for Treatment
    • In bullet point form, identify the top 2-3 symptoms/issues you believe are involved in the case study, in order of importance.
    • The goal here is to clearly delineate what you believe will be of the most help to your client.
    Recommendations for Individual Counseling
Individual counseling recommendations: Identify two treatment recommendations for individual counseling based on the 2-3 key issues you identified. You will need to cite these recommendations using peer-reviewed journal articles, focusing on the treatments a counselor would provide. Examples of these include but are not limited to dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, etc. Referral to another type of therapy (e.g., group counseling, family therapy, inpatient) may be a recommendation, but since these are case management, they do not count towards the two required recommendations and should not be the primary recommendations listed. Consider recommendations that will be motivating to your client and reflect a collaborative approach. Be mindful of multicultural, ethical, and social justice considerations. Approach this part of the assignment as your exploration of what you would do with this type of client in individual counseling.
Medication considerations: Discuss whether you would refer the client for a medication evaluation and discuss why or why not. If you would refer, provide a brief discussion of the research regarding the use of medication for this diagnosis. For example: which symptoms would be the most likely to benefit from the use of medication? What broad classification of medications might be prescribed (e.g., anti-anxiety, anti-psychotic, mood stabilizers, etc.)? Be sure to provide at least one scholarly reference to support your discussion.
    Specific Considerations
For each case study you will have one specific consideration. You will need to provide one paragraph responding to the questions that correspond with each case study. In your response to these questions, address how these considerations affected your diagnostic impression and your treatment recommendations.

Sam – Case Study 2: How does a client being in crisis change the focus of your assessment and treatment planning? How might a client being in crisis affect a diagnosis?
Each Case Study Assignment is to be 4-6 pages in length. This excludes the title page and reference page. Use current APA format. The Case Study Assignment does not require an abstract. The Case Study Assignment requires a minimum of 4 resources from peer-reviewed journals. This can include the maximum of one textbook reference. All resources need to be less than 10 years old.
Be sure to review the Case Study Grading Rubric before beginning this Case Study Assignment.
