Your goal is to highlight the disease burdens and key risk factors in your selected country. As a representative from your selected nation’s Ministry of Health, your task is to write a report for the newly elected President/Prime Minister/Leader of the country, directing their attention to the disease burdens you believe to be most impactful on the country. The President/Prime Minister/Leader will soon be attending a meeting at the World Bank, where they will be providing a short presentation on the disease burden within the country and requesting financial support for addressing the diseases you recommend are the most burdensome and able to be addressed in cost-effective ways.

1 = The notion that policy agendas are derived from problems is a logical one. You wouldn’t work to develop policy around an area that wasn’t a problem, after all. Think about some of the healthcare policies we have today. The policies surrounding the use of tobacco is one example that was based on a problem. Can you think of others? Are there any you can name that has not yet been resolved? Are there any that you would feel strongly enough about to work to make a change? How would you personally go about making an impact on a particular policy agenda?
2 = We have seen a huge rise in the use of social media along with some potential problems in the healthcare space, especially during a pandemic. However, recent articles have been written that tout social media as a way to aid in advancing the quality of healthcare. One idea is using Facebook as an information-sharing environment or support group for patients and physicians in treating chronic diseases such as diabetes. What is your feeling on the role of social media in the healthcare arena? What security measures would be required? What are the pros and cons?
