As we stand at the crossroads of an aging population, the importance of geriatric nursing cannot be overstated. The demographic shift towards an older population is a global phenomenon, and it brings with it unique challenges and opportunities. By 2050, it is estimated that nearly 2 billion people worldwide will be aged 60 and above. This demographic shift underscores the critical role that geriatric nurses play in our healthcare system.
One of the defining features of geriatric nursing is its holistic approach to care. It recognizes that older adults often have complex healthcare needs that go beyond just medical issues. Geriatric nurses take into account the physical, emotional, social, and psychological aspects of aging.
